I recently acquired a captive-born Florida Cottonmouth from a person who possesed a litter of 8 little cuties all looking for a good home. The guy said he tried feeding hoppers and were refused since they were born. Well the snakes were FREE, so I picked out the best looking one and told the guy I'll get it to eat, no problem. Problem, I've tried pinkies,sm.frogs, fish, anoles, no response! I must admit, I'm quite surprised of all things I can't get a baby Cottonmouth to eat. I've never kept a Cottonmouth before but I'm aware they make one of the most hardy captives. The irony is my whole collection is made up of wild-caughts and have never had any feeding problems, now my first C.B. snake and it will not eat! I know there are a lot of Cottonmouth experts out there. Please advise me.

I had a cb baby like that...I tried everything for a while and it just would not eat...(fish,lizard, chicken, frog, tadpole, toad)
I eventually ended up assist feeding it, and after several times it began eating (rodents) on it's own, and it's been a pig ever since...
good luck
Steve

Depending on how long he has been alive, he might be still living off his or her after birth, which could easily be a month.
