Everything this guy says reeks of the same b.s. the venomoid guy did. They're obviously the same person and he's just here with a new profile trolling to make people angry. Your comments should be directed at other people who might come across this thread, not wasted on him.

That may be true chance, but I know there are alot of people on here who started collecting and keeping hots at ages they probably wouldnt admit to. Where I come from youll see toddlers at rattlesnake roundups. I dont condone that extreme. I will say that alot of people I know have been collecting since 10 years old some younger. I guess it comes from being a natural part of life for some people. Some go fishing some go hunting and some of us go herping. I recieved my first rifle at 9 I bet alot of guys on here had been shooting, hunting, and practicing guns safty with the fathers guidance is that any different?

I didn't come here with my mind made up at all. I was looking for sound advice from people who perhaps kept snakes as kids like myself or let their kids have hot snakes. If someone came on here and said "look, my 13 year old had a hot and he was really careless with it and got tired of it quickly" I would very much take that into consideration. I was looking for people to come on here and relate their experience not fear monger or delegate what they think is the right answer. Instead this conversation just devolved because instead of experienced people relating their experiences regarding this topic people act immature, start preaching hippy liberal nonsense, and go off topic attacking my ideas. Again, I am not asking whether or not you agree with my ideas, I am looking for experienced people to relate their experiences regarding this matter since most of us started keeping hot snakes at a young age. Also, no organization is going to take my child away for endangering a child because I am not breaking any laws and I am not endangering my child this is real ignorant hippy garbage and this person should have their account revoked. What are you going to ban next, horseback riding, Beebe guns, football, those thing all endanger your child as well. I don't have my mind made up but I am not going to take ignorant hippy slander serious either. Please people I am just looking to relate to people who started herping young or have kids who started herping young I don't care about what you think, I don't want to hear your opinions, and hippy liberal bs is meaningless. So can this conversation please stay relevant and on topic ?

Also, regarding the Waglers viper comment, I never insinuated that a bite from a Waglers viper shouldn't be taken seriously, nor did I ever claim that one should be careless when dealing with such an animal. I simply claimed that no one has ever died from a Waglers viper bite. They have bitten people here in the U.S. and no one I know of at least has ever had a serious injury due to one. I also claimed that they have a much more docile temperament. If you look at the link to the website I posted earlier you will see pictures of a guy who has a bunch around his neck and on his head. I also only claimed that temperament and toxicity levels are considerations to be taken when dealing with freshman. I think those are fair points, however, they are off topic so please stop bringing them up. I didn't come here to argue about garter snakes and Waglers vipers.

You have asked for opinions and recieved many, including some from very fine minds in this field.
In my years of partivcipating in a variety of very dangerous activities (parachuting, live fire military exercies, venomous snake handling) your idea of a top down approach just doesn't make sense. you would be the only person I've ever heard of who practices such an approach when lives could be on the line. Perhaps it makes sense in your head, but it's asking for disaster when applied to the real world.
You don't give a recruit a rifle and put him through a live fire platoon attack on his first day, that's reckless. You teach him to use the weapon, then give him blanks first, then after he's proven himself he can move on. Any other way to go about it would be insane and it's no different with a venomous snake.

And you don't need to be doing anything illegal for family services to take your children... they just have to give grounds as to why it's in the child's best interests to be removed from the home... believe me, I know about this topic.

Anyone who uses the phrase "pet rattler" scares me in this hobby. I think the decision regarding if you get your child a hot should be discussed within the confines of your home.

Ok Canadian snakenman you really want to fight about this then let's go. If I am going to train my child, or any one for that matter, to handle hot I am going to teach them how to handle hots. Not corn snakes. They are going to learn how to use the tools such as tubes, hooks, etc. They are going to also have to learn the characteristics of their animals. My monocles act nothing like my rhinos which act nothing like my pythons. If my son gets a a spitting cobra or a squam he is going to have to master the techniques for dealing with that individual species. Hence, training him to learn how to handle a corn snake is a waste of time and equal to saying wait until he gets older - since he really won't be learning anything significant any way. The question I asked myself and you people is whether or not a 12 year year old would be capable is mastering these techniques. But instead of answering these question in a professional manner you people just acted like children and became obnoxious. No one in their right mind would ever take my kids from my big house because I own exotic pets and frankly I think it's an insult to all of the children born addicted to crack. If you didn't sit online all day commenting on every thread posted you might be able to vent your pent up fustrations some were else. I am trying to have an adult conversation with real men so sorry moron I don't want to listen to you any more. go back to Canada and pick some maple leaves

Also I already told my
kid he couldn't have a venomous snake and the reason I posted this thread was because I felt guilty about it. However, given the disrespectful and child like incompetence I have seen from you people I have actually come to the realization that my 12 year old is more mature then most of the people on this site so I am actually
Going to give him what he wants. I am going to document his training and and then his ability to care for the snake over the next six months. And then I am going to post my
Findings, whatever they maybe. This way if any one faces this issue in the future they will have as good source of information. Reguardless of the outcome.
