Does anyone know if Dean Ripa's book on Bushmasters
( second edition ) has been publishesd yet? Iwould like to buy a copy.

A good friend of mine told me dean only sells males. Could this be true? Also heard that he was importing them thru a guy in peru and paying CONSIDERABLY smaller amounts than selling for. At one point towards the beginning something like $35 a piece! The only reason I bring this up is the source of my info is a very honest and knowledgeable man. Never mislead me before which makes this all the more shocking. They were importing thru the same guy. Anyone shed anymore light on this? Personally it doesnt make a difference seeing how I have no desire to ever own BMs. Lots of much more attractive ssp out there. I prefer my arboreals hands down.

I think he meant the book, not an actual Bushmaster. As far as I know, the book isn't out yet. Seems that Dean is a incurable perfectionist. ;-)

I doubt you'll get someone to export a Lachesis for that amount. On the other hand, since he imports them he can ask what he thinks is a fair market value. After all, wild Lachesis require a hell of a lot of work.
As far as him only selling males, I don't know. Some folks do that.

"many more attractive species out there"...I suppose if snakes were only seen in brail. Man, Lachesis are one of the Holy Grails of the snake world - hard to find a more impressive species - perhaps my favorite in our collection but hey, beauty is subjective. I have a hard time believe anyone is getting $35 for a bushmaster but as Doug said, you can ask any price you want. If folks are willing to pay 1500 for a hatchling then it's worth it to the person who shelled out the money.

I talked with Dean about the book last week.
He is still working on the book, and no definitive release date yet.

Did you read the previous part of the sentence? Towards the beginning of his importation of bm. A good buddy of mine was using the same supplier. He just imported them for the zoo he worked for.

If the price of them falls to $35, I will get some but until then I think I will stick to other snakes. haha. Certainly impressive animals but I cannot justify spending the amount they are currently demanding.
Looking forward to this book though. Is there any more info on when it will be released?
