And this one isn't even about venom :-). My question is actually about Shedding Snake Serum Protein (SSSP) and keratin composition of scales. First, does anybody out there understand the role of SSSP and its interaction with keratin? I have also noticed that shed skins from my rattlesnakes dries harder and faster than, say, a shed from a rat snake. This makes sense from an Evolutionary perspective b/c the rattle would have to form fairly rapidly after a shed. My question is this - is the above observation due to an inhibition off SSSP (which I have already admidded ignorance to understanding), is it a keratin balance thing, or something else entirely?
