differt color's of timber rattlesnakes

I was wondering about a timber rattlesnake i have it's about 50 inches long with 13 rattlers but it has a light cream color between the black and brown bands it this a rare color? I don't know how to post a pic on this site so if anyone could tell me how i'll post one thanks from wv

I put the pic on my profile It may be a common color for some areas but i've only seen 2 of this color in my area most are just yellow black and brownish.thanks from wv

That is considered the black phase however I have seen jet black ones. Really nice Timbers are my favorite of all snakes. They come in a wide variety of color phases. They are also really quite curious snakes. You also dont see to many around.

The cream coloration you mentioned between the chevrons is actually the snake's mid-dorsal stripe, which appears more rusty-red farther south in VA and reaches a deep red, pencil-thin extreme in canebrakes. In this case the stripe is obscured and interrupted by the dark blotches so it loses its continuity. I have seen similar-looking timbers in MD and WVa, and sometimes the cream-colored stripe can be very broad, with most attractive results.

BTW, the fact that it has 13 segments in its rattle makes it (until its next shed) a genuine Ben Franklin "Don't Tread on Me" rattlesnake.
