We have several copperhead snakes around our house near Pike State Forest in Ohio. How do we get rid of these snakes? Do they smell like cucumbers? Help! Thank you.

The best way to "get rid of" snakes around property is to determine what the snakes find appealing about the place, and then change the "structure" to make the property less appealing. If the snakes are migrating to your property from surrounding habitat, I would suggest mowing the grass short and removing brush piles, placing firewood up off the ground in a rack, and removing any and all debris (trash, tin, construction debris, etc.) from your property. There are four basic reasons that snakes will inhabit property:
1) Reproduction
2) Food
3) Water
4) Cover
I List them in no particular order, but each has significance independent of the other factors. If you remove the appeal, the snakes go elsewhere... it's pretty simple.... that's why you selom find snakes in a Walmart parking lot... no appeal. I wish I lived closer so I could show you what I mean....
Best regards,
TomT

Please do not kill any of them. If you continue to have problems with the snakes, find someone to remove them for you. I'm sure you can find someone on this site that would be more than happy to help. Wish I could but I'm in CA.
