@Pug
Interesting that the profile is rather scanty. I smell a rat!
Funny thing, I suspected this would happen. I just happen to have a screenshot from about 4 hours ago. He deleted everything except name and e-mail. I have the whole screen shot of his profile, just don't know how to post it. any help?

To put simple for you guys to understand I am done with this hobby and erased everything because of that. I am not trying to hide and am not ratting as you say. Why do you think I am in so much trouble? Also I spoke to the zoo today and verified they will come get animals tomorrow. S.C. is brought up simply because it is not an unknown secret that this is the gateway of where unethical venomous deals are done because of lack of restriction. That is simply how he got the animal in the first place.

Never mind I might stay and ride out the storm. I mean I deserve the ragging and gripping I am getting behind my actions. Thinking about it I honestly see why others in the hobby are so upset. This is truly my passion and I am truly sorry to the community over my actions. I am indebt to the Jacksonville Zoo and would like to again think the staff there for helping save my life. I do want to tell the community that I didn’t feel like this was entirely my fault because in my mind I had good intentions behind my actions but also wanted to own the animal for personal possession. However, looking at it objectively I knew that what I was doing was dangerous and it was a downright lack of judgment. I am sure FWC, GA DNR and or US Fish and Game will hand down my punishment soon and I hope it will have no ill effects on the entire hobby.
p.s. If I stay I will only keep native until I am financially well enough to stock my own antivenin and not need to suck up others antiserum in the event of an accident.
Hope you guys take my apology and realize I am trying to man up to my actions here.
Thanks,
John

I fully accept your apology. My opinion doesn't matter around here much though. I'm glad you decided to stick it out. Good luck with dealing with the different agencies. I wish you the best. Keep me posted. Once again, if you don't want to publish publicly, my private e-mail is in my profile.
Good Luck,
William

How can you blame anyone other than yourself John? The snake bit you and it's only an animal. Was it not secured properly? Do not trash SC,it's inexperienced people like you that will force bans or new laws in other states. It was on the today show for Christ sakes! Talk about not keeping a low profile! You need to do your research and have AV on hand for such an animal in advance. I suggest you stick with your first thought, which is get out of this hobby because that's where people that create problems like this to the venomous community belong:OUT!

Shift cages or at the very least trap boxes are the ONLY way to deal with a mamba safely.
Taking it out beside an interstate at 2 am is darwin award skillful.
I say stick to needlepoint, we don't need you here.

Drew,
I say again I take full responsibility for what I have done. I brought bad media attention to the hobby because of this bite, where it happened, because it was“ supposedly a black mamba” (as another member put it) and the selectively released details around it. However, I promise that I was trying to help a total novice fix a legally bad situation, prevent a total venomous disaster 5 Xs this event, help fix and unethical sell of this animal and in the end own one of my favorite species. So please think of my post more as a root cause analysis and explanation on the entirety of the incident filling and filling in what lead up to it. (Of course with limited details due to the current criminal investigation, my legal issues and punishment still unknown.)
Before I go any further let me address some of what appears to be your concerns,
“The snake bit you and it's only an animal”, that is simply because I don’t want to openly on a public forum say anything incriminating. My attorney actually told me not to defend myself to you guys at all but I feel pushed to give the other members something.
“Was it not secured properly?” Simply put NO. When the guy arrived to my location the animal was in a simple pillowcase, unlabeled, secured in the middle of it by a wrapping of painter’s tape and transported in the bed of a pick-up truck under a spare tire (for who knows how many miles) because he was scared I might be DNR.
“Do not trash SC,it's inexperienced people like you that will force bans or new laws in other states” I am not trash talking S.C. nor anyone is S.C. to be honest I actually like S.C.’s take on keeping venomous and/or exotic animals. I simply said we, as a community need to tighten our rules and or information gathering requirements of a buyer and his or her qualifications before they are allowed to buy anything venomous. This in my opinion is an ethical requirement we all need to adopt and adhere to. This is simply to help stop or our hobby from coming crashing down and ensure states, like S.C, don’t have to draft laws, policies and or permit systems for us. Like for example what has been done in the state of Florida. Also please know that while I am quiet most of the time on this forum and young, I currently do live in the state of Florida have been permitted to keep venomous here for almost 4 years now. Look up Fl permit requirements and you will see that I must have some form of experience, might not be an expert but defiantly not a total novice either.
I am not keeping a low profile about this simply because I am not the only one to blame nor is the kid who I was going to get the animal from. When I tried to keep a low profile you guys attacked me in almost every forum, eating up speculation and hearsay the news used to craft a story that sells to the public. However, like I said in earlier post (after being back into a corner and provoked into speaking) this kid acquired this animal from somewhere. He told me it was a venomous event where he was simply asked for an I.D and the money. Since he was a keeping rattlesnake at home (I assume native) had a run in with his DNR in he thought all venomous was legal. Now being in this hobby for a while the only place where I have ever personally seen such transactions allowed to happen is S.C., not to say it NEVER happens anywhere else. Also just so you know it was events in unregulated states mostly S.C., where I got many of my venomous reptiles before my legal permit keeping days, some even before I was even old enough to drive. Now you couple his details this with the fact he also informed me he lives in N.E. GA with your own personal knowledge of how some people sale venomous in unregulated areas such as S.C. and you tell me where it is in the U.S. that this kid most likely acquired this type of animals? Because that is where the issue started. Now I am not saying it was 100% positively S.C. and even if it was that the government of S.C. needs to do anything about it. However, I am stating simply, we as a venomous community need to be mindful of who we sell to, WHERE THEY PLAN TO TAKE ANIMAL HOME TO, their qualifications, and training before we sell to them. In the end if we don’t guys such as this inexperienced and legally uninformed person, will keep being allowed to acquire venomous in unregulated areas, only because they have the money and the sale is legal. The paper trail and documentation will eventually lead back to theses unregulated areas and states like S.C. will have no choice but to address the issue. This could be in the form of a permit and qualification system before being allowed to own such animals (like Fl) or an out right Ban (as in many other areas) it is just a matter of what incident finally took place to push the government to take action.
As for A/V I know exactly how to get it and acquire it. However the problem here is finding a Dr who is willing to put their name on the paperwork for someone who keeps venomous reptiles.
As for getting out of this hobby it is still truly a possibility. However, it would more be to do with the total lack of respect and passing of impartial judgment from other members simply because I will not incriminate myself and fill them in on the exact details of this incident. I am sure that if any of you really loved and enjoyed venomous reptiles and the ownership, were placed in my situation and knew exactly what I do about this even then in an attempt to rectify an already bad situation then you too would be willing to put yourself and freedom on line.
Again sorry for the bad media attention and press.
Thanks,
John

Chad,
Please don’t try and school me online about safe handling of mambas. If it were my Mamba it would have been inside of a trap box or container inside of a bag and clearly labeled before leaving my hot room. Not only because it is the smartest way of dealing with such a venomous species but also because that is the transport requirement or any venomous reptile under Fl law, which just so happens to be where I was trained and possess my permits. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe under the circumstances of how the animal in question was attempted to be passed off that I was attempting to ensure the animal was alive properly secured and in compliance will all of my permitting state’s requirements?
No one took the animal in question out at 2 am it was improperly secured in the first place.
But what we actually need here are people who jump the gun, pass uniformed judgment over news allegations (that we all know is never in our favor and is told in such away to sell the story) before an arrest, trail and/or conviction? Or do we need more breeders/vendors and sellers who find themselves on hard times and/or just have bad policies ethically which makes them willing to sell anything venomous to a person simply because the person possess the money is 18 and is currently in a legal state to buy a reptiles under these conditions, with no thought as to the person’s knowledge of legalities, dangers, the reptile’s needs, husbandry, intentions or even the persons legal status or knowledge of where he or she plans to take this venomous reptile? Because if that is what we need here I have no problem leaving this community but not hobby because I will not be bullied into leaving my passion. Then again if that is what we need the hobby will eventually doom itself and I just go about my life with my wife and children, as I am sure they to would be happy it is gone.
