In psychology that is called rationalization. You are trying to justify doing something completely stupid with invalid arguments.
"they are easily for sale in another state!!"
"I was trying to rectify a bad situation!!"
Hogwash.
It's time this hobby started ostracizing people who free handle, people who play with mambas at the rest area, people who do utterly stupid ****.
Please follow your first instinct. Get a hobby you can be a slob at and still live.

Your argument of the snakes being easily available in other states being the reason you were bit is BS. It would be like people blaming Germany for all of the wrecks that occur with Volkswagens. People should understand their limits and be able to police themselves. If it is legal and a person is of age, they should know what snake they can and cannot safely handle and make their own judgment. Stop pointing fingers and accept that this is no ones fault other than your own.

Chad,
Call it what you want. I am not trying to justify anything but rather inform everyone on as much detail around the entirety of this incident and what lead up to it. As for being “ostracized” or a slob all I can say is good luck to you on trying. I am sure I am not the only one in this community who has been bitten by an exotic nor the only one who has met somewhere shady on a venomous deal. I know it was not exactly the smartest thing I have ever done and it caused bad press for not just me but you guys too and for that again sorry.

I will not take the time to comment on all your points in your last two post, however, you still seem adamant that you are only partly to blame. I said “Supposed” Mamba bite because details were very limited when I posted the article. I don’t doubt that you were well intentioned, but the fact remains that you committed a crime to try and undo an un-ethical action. You both did. Most of your post begin with your apology but end up including an explanation as to why you are only partly to blame, I withdraw my acceptance to your apology.

Chris,
Nowhere did I say or even attempt to argue on factual basis that I wad bitten because the venomous are “easily available in other states.” Simply said this is how the animal in question even became part of the equation. I am permitted in Fl so I can easily still acquire one if it was something I simply had to have and I don’t have to go to unregulated areas to buy. I simply was trying to offer the kid something in return for an animal he should of never been allowed to buy, give him a confidential placement of the animal without him having to worry about going to jail and ensure he didn’t just let the animal go as he was originally intending on doing when he found out his state’s legalities. I have not pointed fingers and do take responsibility for my actions but I hastate to take total responsibility.
And this statement “People should understand their limits and be able to police themselves. If it is legal and a person is of age, they should know what snake they can and cannot safely handle and make their own judgment,” shows me that a debate with you is not worth my time. No untrained person no matter his or her mental ideas and desire to own should be allowed to buy anything nearly this hot, ever and period. If for no one else’s safety but the general public. It is simple untrained and uneducated persons in this hobby don’t always know or understand what a venomous reptile can do. I think some of them are simply are driven by the aw factor, attention seeking or ego crave to oven something like this. Then six months later when all of this wears off and the start to see the husbandry needs and that these animals are a lot of work they simply look for somewhere to dump it off. It happens in the exotic pet trade all day. I know because being permitted with ROC/ Venomous and Class 3 in Fl not a week goes by that I am not contacted from someone who is looking to dump off their impulsively bought and unethically sold animal of all types.
Again sorry for bad media attention to the hobby but it is done now and nothing I can really do about it.
Thanks,
John

Drew,
Considering you’re a RN you probably know someone or your Dr is cooler then most.

WLS,
I honestly don’t care anymore about others opinions behind this. I have spoken to many of my closer venomous friends and some of whom are most respected in this community and they fully understand and are backing my intentions but not actions. That is all I need at this point. I just fee strongly that is not entirely my fault and have yet to have anyone factually show otherwise. I again am sorry for the bad media attention surrounding this, the fact that and what I actually did do. However, since you were not on scence when this took place you have no idea where this incident happened at or the details of what truly happened. So for that I must simply evaluate the source of the opinion before I allow it to factor into if I care or not.
Thanks,
John

Also sorry for some of the grammar issues in my postings, as I just proof read some of them. My bite site is infected and hurting badly so I am kind of medicated still most times.

You knowingly did this even though it was illegal. How is it in any way not your fault? All other parties aside you could have just said no. 100% responsible for your own actions. Your about old enough to know right from wrong without someone holding your hand, but then again maybe not. Reguardless you should not own hots. Stick to gtps or boas so when you do get tagged again it wont be life threatening just eye opening.
