hello I live in wv and we have had alot of very warm weather this year for the last couple of days it's been 80-85 what i was wondering is about the timber rattlesnake if the warmth of the day or lengh of the days that make them leave the den i've been looking and nothing yet but the last of april is as soon as i've heard of them comming out any help would be appreated thanks from wv

May is a good average, although nicer weather may prompt earlier emergence and bad weather later emergence.

I took a walk yesterday just to look around and we saw one. Here in PA we can not handle the snakes or carry any equipment until june so we just go to various areas looking to see when they emerge and take pictures which helps us pin point dens. I would say it's still a little early yet because the area we went was to a small den site and we didn't see many snakes or a single shed. Now this could be different for larger dens where more snakes may have been out. Even if the snakes emerge from there dens now i dont think they will travel far since it is still march and the weather can fluctuate quite a bit. Im far from a professional on this but i have caught hundreds of timbers and went looking with people from the fish and boat commission many tines and this is what we seem to notice year to year. Hope this helps.

Yea Ive also been wondering the same about the copperheads in upstate SC. It seems the only people that see them around here regularly are the one that dont want to see them ha
