The original post stated that he "Gave the usual explaination distinguishing venomous and poisonous. I do seem to recall that ring-necks may be poisonous if ingested by some species.".... "ingested by some species" would, I believe, include coral snakes. Take care, Marty

Well, now we're into multiple layers of speculation/interpretation on our part, but...
Venomous vs. poisonous is a separate issue from what I was talking about.
And while James mentions toxicity to coral snakes here, the wording suggests that it might not have been part of his answer to the student (like I said, speculation).
Read Charlie's post carefully and you might catch what I'm concerned about.

I've been searching sources and cannot find anything on them being poisonous when consumed. Anybody have a definitive answer?

This is the first I've ever heard of this, but I guess that's because myself and others I've worked with have not had much interaction with or necessity for ring necks in general. So this is quite interesting. Don't think they've crossed my mind since the age of 10 at least. Its funny the things you forget about through the years. Be interesting to read any info from people that have experienced this first hand. Definitely sparked more converstaion than this sites seen in a while.

Just curious but why does there need to be a qualification needed to say ring necks are venomous? They are what they are. All you have to be able to do is type and or read.

Sigh... Between two "snake people" who will bother to do a little research, there doesn't. The average person will assume from that unqualified statement that a ring-neck can kill you and should therefore be squashed on sight. If that doesn't bother you, then feel free to save ten seconds by not explaining further.

When responding to questions, just like preparing lectures/presentations, the audience must be considered before hand.

Lol. You guys crack me up. The average person doesn't even know this website exist and could probably care less in all honesty. That's ok though you guys can go ahead and be as anal as you want. To me its just a ring neck. Have a nice day.
