THIS IS A PUBLIC NOTICE> AS OF YESTERDAY DELEGATE Lucas (D) Portsmouth has placed the FULL reptile ban (Bill 477 I believe) back on the table. NO ORGANIZATIONS ARE CURRENTLY REPRESENTING KEEPERS FOR THIS AT ALL. HSUS JUST HAD A HUGE LOBBY DAY FOR THE BAN LAST WEEK IN RICHMOND. IN RESPONSE WE ARE HAVING ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY CONTACT YOUR DELEGATES AND THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC LOBBY DAY FOR THE PRIVATE COMMUNITY FEBUARY 13th, this is the last DAY BEFORE AGRICULITURE COMMISSION WILL HERE THIS ISSUES AND POSSIBLY BAN MOST REPTILES WITHIN THE STATE> THE MATTER IS IN YOUR HANDS NOW< STAND AND FIGHT OR HSUS WINS THIS ONE> HOPE EVERYONE CAN CALL AND REACH OUT TO YOUR DELEGATES AND SENATORS PRIOR TO THE 13th!!!!

Thank you for posting this Jared. I just checked the Virginia General Assembly Web site and got this information: in the Senate SB477, in the House HB1242. It seems to read the same as last year and would put all hots off limit. Also all boas and pythons except balls, angolans, and chondros. I can have ball pythons but not rosy boas? A chondro but not an emerald tree boa? No basis in science. I will do what I can, everyone else -- PLEASE do the same!
Here is a link to the General Assembly where you can read it in full and find the contact information for your delegate and senator (and who they are if you don't know).

Though I wasn't able to meet up with "the crew" at the capitol I did get to speak with my Delegate, Betsy Carr. I got this message from her today:
Your informed point of view helps me to be a better representative.
Both HB 1242 and SB 477 were defeated and will not be considered for passage by the House of Delegates.
Virginians can breathe a sigh of relief -- for now at least. But try to keep in touch with your representatives and let them know you keep reptiles -- and you vote!
