It is not completely filled out. Your "real name" is missing. People need to have a complete profile to participate. Regardless of your opinion.

You are welcome. I must say, I love your youtube videos and I respect that you are an experienced responsible keeper. I meant no offense to you or any other keeper that gives good honest answers to serious questions.

Your confusing elitism with something called experience & knowledge, which takes time and effort to aquire. Most novice keepers like yourself don't want to take the time to get experience & knowledge and arrive on this and other forums totally unprepared. Unprepared in the sense, they have not done any preliminary reading or research on their own. Setting the stage for criticism pertaining to the total lack of knowledge on the topic they are interested in.
Take my example for instance, that dude had no clue about keeping Sidewinders our about the natural life they lead. Why? let me tell you why from my experience. They don't want to take the time & effort required to do the research on the topic. This in turn puts the animals at risk for sickness, injury, and death. The same applies about getting bit, if you don't know the species and what makes it tick your putting yourself and others around you at risk.
The bottom line, come prepared with basic knowledge about your interest, a learning mindset and you will come away with knowledge & experience you desire, not a sore butt.

I have done a lot of research and preliminary reading. The only species I'm keeping is agkistrodon contortrix mokasen and I soaked up any and all information I could before I got one. I read every article I could find on their care, behaviors, similar species behaviors, diet etc. I talked with keepers who have kept them and are currently keeping them and thought about my decision for a long time before I got one. I have followed all safety protocols when handling and maintaining my animals cage and recently removed a partial shed with no problems. I'm not saying that experience and knowledge are not valuable at all. What I was saying is that none of those things are insurmountable for the novice to learn and understand on their own. I'm not advocating that anyone just decide they like venomous snakes and jump right into keeping. Some keepers have 20+ years of experience and still get bitten, some don't. people make mistakes, people become complacent, people take unnecessary risks but that doesnt mean that every beginner will. I totally agree about the sidewinder guy, of course thats a dumb question. There will always be stupid people doing stupid things and asking stupid questions.

Nor are you sir! Like I said, your videos are awesome and you seem like a smart responsible reasonable guy. I apologize for the rant. I do understand that with the volatile state of legality concerning the hobby from state to state that there are many that just want to protect what little freedom is still left, this makes perfect sense.

No worries, it turned out to be a good discussion. We all want to have what's left of the hobby seen in a good way. If we don't self-regulate in some way the government will do it for us. Something nobody desires.
