My ad was removed because I was supposedly free handling my monocle cobra. I got this message from the SHHS:
" John, your add for the cobra for sale was removed due to the free handling picture. We at SHHS don't cone free handling in any form, even with gloves. Glove can offer an added protection while using hooks, tongs, tubes, etc., but there have been many documented accounts of bites penetrating those gloves and envenoming the holder. We don't want youngsters and/or novice venomous keepers to get the wrong impression and think that gloves are the proper way to handle a venomous snake. Sorry for the inconvenience, but that is a rule on the site. Please feel free to re-post with a different pic if you'd like. Thanks, Marty (A.K.A. Agkistrodude) Site Moderator. "
At first I laughed because I thought this was a joke. Almost every statement here is false. However, I seen that my ad was taken down and now I would like to speak to the other moderators about this because honestly I am a offended. First of all I have a problem with this statement, " there have been many documented accounts of bites penetrating those gloves and envenoming the holder. We don't want youngsters and/or novice venomous keepers to get the wrong impression and think that gloves are the proper way to handle a venomous snake." The R8E 3180 Venom Defender Gloves from Snake Professionals that I purchased here: http://snakeprofessional.com/about-venom-defender-gloves.html have never been penetrated before. Perhaps people were wearing different gloves that they claimed were these and got bit but these gloves have never been penetrated. Aside from the video evidence of this documented here: http://snakeprofessional.com/videos.html I have personally tested my pair of gloves on both Gaboon vipers and large king cobras before using them and can personally testify from experience that my gloves are full proof. To insinuate that some child is going to see my ad and then go run over and grab a cobra with gloves on and get bit is delusional, insane, and offensive.
Second of all, youngsters and/or novice venomous keepers should get the impression that the R8E 3180 Venom Defender Gloves are the proper way to handle a venomous snake because they are much more safer then hooks, tongs, tubes, etc. I know plenty of people who were envenomated while using hooks, tongs, tubes, etc. and I don't know of any one that was ever envenomated while using the 3180 Venom Defender Gloves. I personally use the gloves instead of the hook because the second I put my monocle on a hook she shoots up the hook towards my hands and makes it much more difficult for me to control her. I can personally testify from experience that it is safer to use the venom defender gloves then a hook because the venom defender gloves give you more control over the animal then a hook can offer. If the gloves are as faulty as you claim, then there really is not point in using the gloves in conjunction with hooks, tongs, tubes, or anything else for that matter.
Third of all, holding a snake with the R8E 3180 Venom Defender Gloves is not the same as free handling. I would never free handle a monocle cobra ! Free handling is picking up a hot snake with your bare hands. I am not picking them up with my bare hands, I researched and tested the gloves before use and they are my personal choice of tool and I personally believe they are safer than using a hook for certain species of snakes like monocle cobras. I have been keeping hots for over 10 years and have used hooks, tongs, tubes, and the gloves and personally feel from experience that the gloves are safer the all of the other means of moving hot snakes. Snakes tend to fall off of hooks, shoot up them towards you hand at lightning speed, jump off hooks at people, etc. I have also had hooks brake on me when I was sold a hook were the end wasn't screwed on properly. So let's not sit here and delude ourselves into thinking that hooks are without fault.
Therefore, there was no reason to take down my ad other than a bias towards a more traditional and antiquated means of handling snakes and a prejudice towards a more modern and safer means. Unless you guys can sit here and guarantee every single member of the SHHS that hooks and tongs are 100% full proof and that if they use them they will NEVER get bit then I would like to be able to post pictures on this site using the tools that I consider safer thank you.

I understand the moderator's decision on this. However, I would also discourage pics of hooking and tailing as well as tubing. There are reasons that handling with the gloves, hooking, and tubing are necessary (removing snake from cage, medicating, forcefeeding hen necessary, removing bad sheds, etc) but a photo for a classified isn't one of them. It's not that you were being unresponsible or unsafe, they're probably just thinking that if the intent is to sell the snake there's no need to post a pic of you holding it with the gloves. You also have to keep in mind the number of people who don't understand and want to ban our hobby that frequent these sites looking for evidence to use against us to show that we are a bunch of nut jobs who shouldn't be allowed to keep these fascinating creatures. It is a cool snake though BTW.

There is never any reason to free handle venomous snakes. Medicating ,assist feeding and so on can be done safely ,and less stressful to the snake with tubes and hooks. The gloves are also a liability ,I would not use them either.

Maybe they just do not want anything that would harm the hobby of keeping venomous reptiles. For example, showing free handling, dangerously handling a venomous snake with a snake hook, or even using gloves(which can be dangerous)to handle these animals.

I discussed the ad with site Webmaster before I pulled it. All you need to do is use a different picture. Problem solved. Take care, Marty

Hmmmmmm.... Membership here is free, advertising here is free. This falls under the their site, their rules. It really has nothing to do with gloves or free handling. You didnt pay for the ad. You lost nothing, whats to be offended about? They contacted you privately with an explanation they didnt owe you.
Theyre even letting you repost the ad with a different picture. I didnt see the picture but were you selling gloves or a snake?

Really PTK ? I am not challenging or trying to undermine the site. I really like this site. I am even going to buy an SHHS T shirt. Why are you trying to start trouble ? Don't you have anything better to do then troll and try to cause fights ?
All I was saying was that when you pay almost $400.00 for bite proof gloves and then test them out to be sure, and handle your snake multiple times with them, I don't think that constitutes free handling. I would never ever pick my monocle up with my bare hands or lesser grade gloves. That's all I am saying.

Straight from their website.....
"Although not guaranteed to be puncture proof, our gloves are puncture resistant and trusted by many experts.
Venom Defender animal handling gloves are intended as an extra line of security and should not be taken as a substitute for good handling techniques."
