This is one where I really need help. I picked up a baby Atheris Squamigeria from my friend. A few Days later it prolapsed. I pushed the prolapse back in myslef. About a week later I noticed that the end of his tail is completely swollen and the snake was slightely prolapsing again. I called my vet and he told me to feel for a mass. There was a large rock solid mass in his abdomen. I pushed on it and some fecal matter came out and the swollenness went away. However the larger rock solid mass in his abdomen didn't come out. When I pushed on it he just prolapsed more. The vet said that this mass is what's causing him to prolapsed. However, he cannot help me because he does not see venomous snakes and nor do any other vets in my area. I don't want this snake to die but I have no idea how to get this mass out or what to do. Any ideas.

I have not experienced any prolapse myself, but having kept arboreal boids for a number of years I've always been paranoid about this.
I would soak the animal in luke warm water then tube the snake and massage the solid mass out - my guess is, this is dried stuck fecal matter. If it prolapses again, use a rounded out q-tip rod and work it back in there. Use electrical tape to secure it in. Cease feeding for 3-4 weeks. Use vegetable oil to peel the electrical off after.
Good luck.

BM, I am sorry I was not specific enough. I have heard that giving mineral oil as a "laxative" for snakes can work, but I have no experience with it. At this point, unless you somehow found a vet willing to deal with your snake, or you knew how to perform a surgical procedure, I would try that as well as soaking it in warm water as often as possible.
Good luck

At this point all options are on the table I already had one of my best squams die this year for a stupid reason I am not trying to loose another.
Does prolapse damage a snakes reproductive capability ?

A couple of things you can try in an emergency situation such as this.
1. Administer SQ fluids @ 10ml/lb.
2. An enema. It would only need to be 3mls. Lube tip of tube heavily, insert 2" and administer.
Sometimes a simple warm bath is the best thing for it though. Watch the temperature of the water but don't be afraid to leave the snake for an hour or longer. This is often when you will get successful results.
Hope this helps.
