So I'm in Naples Florida on vacation. Where I come every year for the month of July on vacation. And one of my favorite things to do down here in SW Florida is go Herping. Well this mourning I was going to Vanderbuilt beach with the family and a large female green Basalisk ran right in front of me on 2 feet. It was right at the entrance of the beach. Then it shot up a tree. I could not believe my eyes. The last time I saw Basalisks in the wild I was in Costa Rica back in 2000. Last year when I came down here I found 2 black racers on the beach invading the sea turtle nest. I was able to grab the snakes despite of them biting the crap out of my hands and arms and move them away. What's funny is I find more reptiles when I'm not Herping, and in more developed areas than in remote areas when I am Herping. Before I left for Florida I was at my parents house in N.Y.C. Where I spent most of my life. And while on the front porche I was looking at their flower box and saw 2 Itialian wall lacerta lizards basking. In various parts of N.Y. There are large populations of them thriving.
