Which is more important for breeding success, age or size? I have CB 13 kaouthia which are pushing 4ft so size wise capable of breeding but am leary of breeding them too early for fear of egg binding. I have always waited until their 3rd season before attempting breeding but in asking others who breed kaouthia, I have heard both sides. Would not want to harm the animal by breeding too soon. Any advice / opinions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm not an expert by any means. But I think size is the indicator. In the wild snakes don't feed as often as most keepers feed them in captivity. I've had tree vipers breed at 11 months old and drop 7 healthy babies 8 months later. Now it seems live bearing snakes are able to breed much earlier than egg layers. People also say one must hibernate. I've never hibernated rattlesnakes and the ones I breed had no issues????? Who knows.
