First of all you need an appropriate sized enclosure, a 40 gallon breeder tank would be good enough and a adequate heat source, which should be on one side of the enclosure, keeping it at around 85 degrees. At night I would cool it to around 75 degrees. My rule of thumb is if it's raining outside it should be raining inside, so I mist my snakes at that time. Copperheads don't like standing water, they prefer a running source like a stream or rainfall but if that is not available then a water bowl should always be included for soaking as well as some form of hide box, like a half log or a rock structure. For the substrate I prefer using just plain ol' newspaper, it's easier to take care of and while not as visually pleasing as some pseudo-habitat like bark, timber, rock, etc. As I have learned the plainer the enclosure the more attention the animal receives, if you want a nice garden go to a Home Ec class and by a turtle. :)
Copperheads don't normally climb so I would not recommend putting any type of climbing structure in with the snake, all that does is provide an escape route for the snake and/or the prey you provide for food. Email me for more details if you are interested, I can go on for days on the do's and dont's of copperheads.
I do not condone owning or keeping venomous reptiles for any reason, but, if you are going to do it: READ, READ IT AGAIN, PAY ATTENTION AND DO NOT SHOW OFF. Venomous snakes are like a loaded gun with an attitude, it will hurt you whenever it gets the chance so be careful. Remember they are not eye-candy they are extremely dangerous and best left to people with experience.
Hope this helped.
