Hi everybody,
I'm thinking about getting into snake venom extraction. And selling it to labs and such. Anyway I was wondering what I would need to get started (equepment and so on). do I need some kind of licens to do this? Are there a lot of labs or companies that would want to buy snake venom from me? I know I'd need a freeze dryer to keep the venom fresh. How much would a small one cost?
Thanks for you time guys,
Jason

This question is very common and I don't want to shoot down someones dreams. But there is a limited market for
venom and a few large providers have the market locked in.
Venom production has become more of a science then the days of just freeze drying venom and shipping it to researchers. Not only do you need to follow FDA and animal abuse rules, but CITIES laws also.
As one of the producers of venom for antisera and research we also have to have income from admissions and lectures to support our more then 1500 animals.
So to do research or sell venom you should think of furthering your education and working with a college.

Be careful. No real researchers post on his site. And the gentlemen that says there are no laws about selling venom for self injection is not a provider inspected by the FDA. Handling snakes is the easy part the science is the hard part. Raw venoms are becoming a thing of the past and fractions are what researchers need most for medical research.
My advise is there are no short cuts and college is the way to go.

You need a background in bio, chem and zoology. Check-out local colleges for these courses. After completing them start looking into grad classes that have biochem, herp,or toxionology. I don't know about WA but Texas, Florida and several others have very good colleges that have herp Phd's on staff.
Good luck.
