The best time is 30 minutes after dark, but you are going to need a friend or family member to drive you around old back roads.

Not sure of the habitat you'll be hunting in , but here in western N.C the absolute best time for summer road hunting is right at dusk after a late afternoon thunder storm..The rain seems to cool down the roads ..gravel or hard top ..to just the right temp for snakes..timbers..copperheads..black snakes all seem to love that summer rain. When I see those conditions coming together late in the day..you can bet my snake hook, bags ,boxes and camera get thrown in the truck with enthusiastic anticipation!

I live in Marietta. I mainly go walking down creeks. THe area Im in is mainly is pine forest. Where i look which is my neighborhood there has one snake i have found in the creek. my grandpa who have lived here for 20 years said there were alot of copperheads. I just havent been able to find any. Im starting to wonder if there is not a healthy pouplation of snakes or sumthing to that degree.
