I'm not sure if any of you out there have heard of the Vet in Porter, IN who got bit by his rattlesnake, but it did make news back in March of this year.
03/05/04 Porter, IN Veterinarian with 35 years’ experience handling snakes narrowly avoids death when he is bitten by “pet” rattlesnake. Antivenin is located and administered at last minute. (Associated Press)
Just goes to show ya, even with all of the experience in the world, one wrong slip of the mind and look at what can happen. For those who are just joining the "hot" world, be this a lesson to you. NEVER let your guard down. The price you pay for doing so can cost you more than money or pain, it could potentially cost you your life. I for one, will make it a point to do as I say and practice what I preach.
Anyone else have any news worthy items? I have a boat load of them, but don't want to run the whole forum :).

Any idea what kind of rattle snake it was? I have a feeling that this story was played up by the media. I transported a little girl back in October who was bitten on her hand by a Pygmy. Nothing more than a bit of swelling and redness. By the time the local paper got a hold of the story, it had been dressed up to the point that it was no where even close to the truth. Her parents told me that she had picked up the snake and was playing with it when it bit her. The story the paper ran was that she was trying to rescue her 4 year old cousin from "certain death"....Come on! The point is that all too often, the media gets hold of these stories and has to make them sound a lot more interesting that they really are. As for their hard time finding antivenom......probably not.
