Many others..all over the US..have already started following suit. When there is word of any type of reptile ban, you need to come together (your local herp community), and fight it till the end. I know first hand that this works..Thanks guys!

This is exactly why I've been moving away from hots more and more. By the end of next week, I'll have none. It's not only the fact that new laws are popping up all over the place, and are likely to form here in Arkansas not too long from now, but the venomous community is more like a war zone. There is so much fighting and bickering it's really quite sickening. People can't ask simple answers without risking their very existence on the 'net being soiled for all time. I may get back into it sometime in the future, if it's still legal, but for now I'm just going to stick with my pythons.

Hey Crotalus Catcher,
Why don't you just keep her anyway and say to hell with the law? Just don't advertise that you have her.

To hell with the law......yeah that's great advice. What happens if he gets bit? What happens if someone else gets bit? Don't say it can't happen because at least 3 people were bitten by someone elses snake in the last year. It's rationale like that that is getting hots banned everywhere. It's sad to see that this hobby is doomed, mostly due to a bunch of lazy freaks who won't take the time to get a permit, take the time to get trained, or take the time to write or fight any of the said laws we are facing.

Amazing TJ, we agree on something again! lol Telling someone to simply disregard the law is, IMHO, a really, really bad idea. If your intention is to have venomous snakes outlawed everywhere, then I guess it's okay to advise that. If you don't think F&G employees take a look at our antics on these boards, you are sadly mistaken. If you absolutely must keep your snakes illegally, for heaven's sake don't advertise it, and certainly don't recommend it to others. I give the rest of the remaining states that don't already outlaw it....oh, maybe 5 years. Any more than that and I will be surprised. It's really a sad deal, but seems to be an unavoidable one. I'll continue to sign every petition made to curb new laws, and I'll continue to write to those who need writing to, but for the time being, I'm not going to risk my entire collection being seized because of a new law that may spring up unannounced banning venomous and not even allowing grandfathering. It's certainly not an impossibility. I guess I'm only hoping to have at least a number of years to enjoy my retics and other pythons before they too are outlawed.

I knew I would catch flack for the statement I made. I was not implying that we should not fight to save our rights. I do sign every petition and I do write to those who create these laws in an effort to save our hobby. I do think we should ban together to keep our hobby legal. I was not implying that we should be "lazy freaks" who ignore the law. As for myself, I do not give my hots an opportunity to bite anyone else. I am not saying that it couldn't happen but i take every precaution to not let this happen. I also do not keep my snakes for exhibition and the reason is that i do not want to take the chance of someone else being bitten. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Ya know what, after a moment to think I decided that I was just venting. I need to practice doing that in private and to myself. I retract my "to hell with the law statement because everyone is right when they say that ignoring laws is precisely why these laws are coming about. I get frustrated when i hear of a new law springing up banning hots. My apologies to everyone. Crotalus Catcher, let your gravid Atrox go and fight the law the right way, through petition and letters to law makers.
