there are several things we need to know like what kind of snake it is, what size is it, is it male or female.
answer those questions and some body can give you a ruff guess

dear martyn, great question. i dont believe in evolution for 2 reasons. first i really believe the Bible. now i used to think God used evolution to create the world. but the current theory is so flawed from a SCIENCE viewpoint even MOST scientists have major problems with it. Yet they have to believe it because if they dont it leaves only one option and it is totally unacceptable. Martly you believe what you want but as a degreed educator in the science field i see evolution as a scientific farce. thanks for listening

hey oldsnakeman,
Do not bring religion in this converstaion. I know the vipers were the last snakes to evolve. They first remians of the first snake like creatures appeared in the late cretatous.

hey martyn like i ve told you the vipers were the last to evolve , found in the middle miocene of europe and north america ( the agenian - aquitanian ) vipera maghrebiana. this was found in morroco. phillip is right the first snakes appered in the cretaceous , the amazing thing about these snakes are the hind limbs suggesting they evolved from lizards ( another known fact according to paleontologist ) the oldist known snake is known as lapperentophis deffreni other early snakes are simoliophis ( check out the topic i ve TRIED to start) . dinilysia is the snake that has the oldist well preseverd skull it shows it is closley related to boids. these are the older snakes hope this helps there is more but i ll just be typing a load of scientific paleontology you might find pointless , by the way i can not go on with out mentioning pacyrachis proplematicus the fossil snake with hind limbs check out the pick on my profile, amazingly interesting .
