Although I was only a six year old when this happened and may not have known better, I was bitten by a young copperhead. It was at this young age that I gained a profound respect for these animals. I did what lots of 6 year olds would do, picked the snake up with my hands. Most don't learn this lesson at six but that experience influenced the way I feel today about safety when dealing with hots. I am actually thankful that that happened to me because it instilled something in me that compells me to be as safe as i can.. The other reason I am thankful for the bite is that it gave me my curiosity and eventually love for these animals.
Bush Viper, this is coming from a bite victim, please use the proper tools when handling hots. It might save your life.
Take Care
Clayton

bush_viper17, I hope this does not scare you off of this site. Please understand this is not a personal attack. This is tough love from people who understand the risks you are taking. No one wants to see anyone suffer the potentially deadly consequences of snake bite. There are experts here who have handled venomous snakes longer than you have been alive. They are concerned about your safety as well as the legal repercussions an accident could cause. Please take their advice. Please do not take unnecessary risks.

Another thing. This was a wild snake so why would I give a fuck if somebody I dont know (And probably dont want to know) cant keep snakes. I dont keep snakes so why should I care if anyone else does. I have a complete passion for animals. If I mess up IT is my fault. I dont go on the internet looking for the best tools and information. I go to the fucking bush and find the snakes and get right in there and learn everything. If you dont want to free handle dont. If you do than be careful and dont post photos on the internet

This is to PHOBOS. You can stil keep venomous snakes in Georgia. Trust me. I talked to a D.N.R. and he said that I can keep them even without a permit.

This is definatly not a venomoid. It is a wild caught snake. I look at handling venomous just like non but you have to watch everything. Im very respectful for what I do. I love all animals, and if everybody wants to put me down and criticize me because I dont handle them like everyone else "is supposed to" I dont need to be on this site. I wasnt thinking "oh everyone is going to be impressed. I was holding the snake and my friend had a camera and said "oh lets take a photo. While posting pictures I ran across this one and posted it........and forgot about it. One thing I can say is that it is better than pushing the snakes head into the ground and grabbing the back of its head. Also better than squeezing the snakes body with stupid tongs. I will continue to study these animals the way Ive been doing since second grade and have a passion for the rest of my life. One thing though...use your energy to get people to not kill snakes.......ever think about that.
With tons of love.....Jeremy.

I probably love animals more than anyone on this website. I live high in the mountains away from civilization (Except for my computer) I dont have/or want any friends except for the animals. I go into the bush and look for animals all day and I even sleep in an old bear den about80% of the time. Everyday I try to give people an understanding about wildlife. Matter of fact yesterday I got 13 local teenagers to swear not to kill snakes. Thats what I do. That is my mission. I went down to bi-lo yesterday (where everyone gathers in this small town) and someone had killed a copperhead. I told them to wait right there. I went home and got a few snakes and gave them an understanding. They had a lot of questions and I answered everyone with entusiasm. Everyone said "I havent ever seen a snake that close while it was alive" and "Oh, I thought that it would chase me and try to kill me." I also put alot of myths to rest and everyone there that night loved it. Some people actually want to go looking for snakes with me this Sunday!!!....So dont get in my business just because you dont agree with me on handling. I have changed alot of peoples minds..This will be my last post. I will never come back to this website again. Just keep loving the reptiles and give people an understanding. Conservation is what we are looking for. Change peoples minds. Show them the love you have for these beautiful animals.
Signing out.....Jeremy Southern.
