I've noticed that each time I've had to offer a rat pinky as opposed to a feeder mouse (due to mouse unavailability)the snake does not appear to approve of the meal. Not sure if it's linked, but the last meal I had offered my copperhead before he went off food for five weeks was a pinky rat. I just fed my juvenile cottonmouth a pinky rat yesterday and he appeared to display disapproval before finally swallowing it. Does anyone ever feed with pinky rats and observe similar behavior? Anyone know why?
