We have hatched out 12 Naja haje and cant seem to get them to feed. It has been two weeks since they shed and we have tried everything: brained pinkies, frogs, toads, lizards, and snakes. Besides tube feeding, does anybody have any ideas what we can try?

When we try tease feeding, the snakes do not react by striking. They only try to get away. Thanx

Did you try braining the prey item. I don't know what the phenomenon is but by exposing the brain of the prey item, the snake is stimulated to eat. Must be a smell but it has worked with some of my snakes. Also, sometimes in the fall, snakes will go off feeding for some time.

Ben:
Are you trying to feed them while they are all in the same enclosure? If so, you need to put them each in their own cage. Then try to tease feed them, after they strike make sure they're really pissed at the prey item, then leave it alone in a dark place for a while. Make sure the temperature is also at the right level. Read the article that Scootertrash recommended, you will find it helpful.

Ok, sorry I recommended braining and then read your original post and you said you already tried that. My mistake.

just my two cents, but the biggest problems I have had with getting neo's to eat is prey size, and environment. Getting smaller prey items, braining, and tease feeding has almost always worked in addition to optimizing the spring/summer conditions. hope this helps a little. as always happy herping
