Everyone tells me I am crazy for keeping hot snakes. But personally I think that keeping venomous snakes is safer than driving a car. When you get bit by a venomous snake it is your fault alone, but you may die from a car accident you had no control of. Nobody seems to get my point so I thought I would see what you guys think. Let me know.

Those people don't have the same wiring as we do. By that I mean they don't care for these animals the way our group does. And they don't understand these animals. By keeping venomous snakes, we can gain an understanding of what they are and how they act. the people that have no experience with venomous often think that they are simply inherently evil beings. We no better, don't we? the best you as an individual and we as a group can do is try to educate others.

I really doesn’t help that “serpents” are so maligned in religion. My father, who thinks I am stark raving crazy any how because of my snakes, heard a preacher on the radio just this week. Now he is on a campaign to save my soul…..

By whom do you mean "everyone". Very few people know about my snakes, besides family and a few select friends. It's not something I really go around telling people about. I try to keep it private, it's better to have your neighbor not know what's going on behind closed doors.

Very true, education is the best cure for the hate and lothing that comes from our venomous friends. Most ppl think im crazzzyyyy also, even some members of my family. But at least i know im giving these so called evil animals a chance to live in peace with us. I myself try to teach anyone i see bout snakes, even when im seting in my local Waffle House ppl come in and start asking me ? bout snakes, and it gives me the chance to speak on behalf of the amazing snakes we have here. So i say do all you can to educate the public and hope that the education will help to kill the fear...........just the opinion of a North AL country boy that has come to love the venomous snakes i share my world with.............happy herping Wally.

I have a educational center here in Tx. That is how "everyone" knows about my snakes. I also feel that it is better to let your neighbor know about the dangers he/she is living next to. If you respectively tell them and show them how you are keeping the animals then they will accept you and maybe show an interest. Respect your neighbors they have a right to know, unless you keep your animals in an unsafe way (plastic shoe boxes, unlocked or unsecurred cages) All of our cages have locks on them. Keeping venomous snakes is a plastic box is like keeping a loaded gun in an unlocked drawer.
