Hi, Im going to the reptile show in SC on the 30th. I hope to purchase a Gaboon Viper(Bitis gabonica) Does anyone know how much a Gaboon will go for at the show. Also if anyone here has a gaboon viper, I would be interested in any info on how your snake behaves, feeds,etc....... Thank You, Jeremy.

also, how much would a white lipped tree viper(Trimeresurus albolabris) cost? Or prices for other tree vipers from the genus Trimeresurus?

Ok,,,Never mind about the tree vipers. I dont have the tools needed to keep one. I would have to have a large arboreal cage and all of the things that go along with that.

the B.gabonica is actually an easy to care for snake relativity high humidity and temps of around 85-91 degrees F should be held during the day 75-79 degrees F at night but try not to let the temp drop past 72 degrees.altough the gaboon is a heavy bodied snake and rather sluggish it has the quickest strike of any other snake and the largest fangs (1.5"-2").they are very hardy feeders as adults but neonates and or younger snakes under a foot long can be irratating to get to eat somtimes but i have found that with gabonica and nasacornis that placing them in a plastic locking shoe container in a safe warm dark place works best for problem feeders.at shows that sell hots ive seen gaboons for around $85-$200 depending on the vender/breeder and the overall look of the litter and blood line of the parents.

Not trying to be a jerk but it really sounds to me like you may not be ready to own anything venomous. Basic questions like these should be covered well in advance of ever actually caring for and owning such a dangerous animal. Why exactly do you want a Gaboon anyway? I really hope it isn't the percieved "coolness factor" that comes with owning such an animal. I'd re-think this if I were you.

Jeremy:
Please stick to local snakes for your own safety. They are enough for you to deal with you present skill level.
I have not forgot that lively discussion we had weeks ago about proper handling techniques. Here is the thread incase you forgot how ugly it got:

I will be at the SC show too, to support SHHS.

hey pigmy bait. Everyone always says that. I was just trying to get people to tell me about there snakes. You can read about them but It doesnt compare to hearing from someone who actually has one. People on this site tell you to get info on the snake.......well thats what Im doing. I have a month before the show. I also keep venomous snakes and know what Im doing.

jeremy bro, you do not seem to be a good example of a shhs member. we have seen your lack of respect for snakes on film and i could see you getting cocky with your seemingly placid gaboon, and then getting bit and possibly facing death. it says your 17, i dont think you can legally own a venomous snake in georgia and i also think you need a permit for an exotic venomous there too. please do us all a favor and dont get the gaboon.
