its interesting to watch these shows because its interesting to see what snakes they find , i don t watch any of them i always stick to books and the net now and then , when i do watch a program on tv about snakes it would be because its a program about snakes in a scientific way full of alot more facts that i could learn more from, steve irwin rarly comes out with anything interesting (sorry steve irwin fans but he don t ) , like i said i watched a great program about the evolution of snakes with experts which in my opinion are far greater then steve irwin or austin stevens.
thats what i think of some shows .

I think that Steve Irwin is more of a conservationist. He doesnt use alot of scientific stuff, because he wants to get the animals in your heart and show you how important they are and the scientific part would probably confuse the average viewer. He uses detailed info when needed, but I dont think that that is his main goal. He does give alot of good info on animals especially crocodilians. Conservation wise, he has done more than anybody. Im not saying hes better, but I can tell that he lives, breathes, sleeps, and dreams animals. Seriously, next time a episode comes on, pay attention to his passion. Ive even seen him cry on a few occasions. Steve definetly will always have my respect. Some others I like are, Zoltan Tokac, Romulus Whitaker,Jeff Corwin,Ive only seen one show of Rob Bredl and I enjoyed it. I dont see myself being a big fan of Austin, but I will watch his shows when they come on. Thank You.

It's funny how some can sit back and post as anonymous. Hiding behind the scenes, but yet ready to spring into action when the mood strikes them, but not enough to "label" themselves to our community. Anonimity is a wonderful thing, as long as you have something to hide. I say if you are willing to have a strong belief, why not post as your are...not wondering what others will think or say to you or your comments.
Back to the subject of the post. Austin Stevens should not be allowed to "represent" any community unless it was that of the "wrong way" crowd. Our community is in danger to begin with. To say that it's ok that some half-baked guy represents us, is the same as saying that it's ok to wave around a loaded gun. Yes, apples and oranges maybe, but the same holds true. I for one, did watch his last show where he had been tagged twice. I was simply amazed that a bafoon like this would even get a shot at national TV. How on earth anyone, gave this guy a break is beyond me. To think he wasn't pulled, but yet now has a new series? May GOD help our community and the scoffers that will surely come.
In the same light, did anyone hear of the guy who wound up dead from his Bushmaster bite in Michigan? Apparently the guy was somewhat of a "handler". Can we say it together? "New law in Michigan bans dangerous animals". At any rate, I don't think this warrants a tyrade of slaps against those who merely smear that which we are tying to build.
Be safe,
Matt

Reference the Bushmaster bite unless something happened within last couple days I was told he was released from the Hospital. They used 20 vials of Wyeth and 28 vials of Costa Rica antisera.
A woman died from a Bothrops bite in Ohio. You are right these accidents do lead to laws.
When I started this question on Austin Stevens I wanted to find out how many people supported his show.
It will have an effect on keepers because the public judges keepers by what they see on TV. Reckless behavior and bad information leads the public to believe we all are crazy and need to be controlled.
We need to support people like Dr. Means, Dr.Fry and some of the real herpers.

Bravo!! There are very few reasons to post anonymous. If you can't be open and stand by what you say them don't say anything.

My experience in seeing his shows has been nothing but dreadful. I really expect his show will only last one season, ending in a memorium to him after dying from a bite from something he was acting carelessly around, as he's demonstrated numerous time for us.
I hate that HE gets a show, and someone else has to sit at home that could do better.

I love Taipan crap. It tastes like chicken.
Seriously though, I love animals of all sorts and I am for conservation but some of you guys take it a bit far in my opinion. Someone here said he'd die for an animal. Bro, I think it may do you some good to get out of the woods for a few days and go spend some time with a few women or get a playstation or SOMETHING!
But I digress... Austin Stevens is an entertainer at best and not a very good one at that. I think I'd honestly rather watch Madeline Albright and Janet Reno wrestle in tapioca pudding.

You know, i saw one of the shows ya'LL talked bout on here and i was rong, he seems to be looking for the limelight more than teaching. I still say thoe that any show that shows a herper free handing a venomous snake is bad press for our comunaty. So i say lets all back the herpers that actualy show the proper way to handle Hots, and try to get the ones that dont to understand that handling in such a reclous maner can have searious afects on our rights as free keepers. So i would hope that evryone that is agents Austin Stevens ways of doing things by handling Hots free handed will also make it known that any other TV herper should not do the same, the reason i say this is if one of these host gets bit, it reflects on the whole comunaty, and odds are any free hander will get bit more often then one that uses tools, it stands to reason. Well i hope that what i have wrote makes some sence, thank you. ....and let me say that i am ashamed of suporting this guy after what i saw tonight, but i still say that serten TV herpers that seem to be dead set on free handing will be biten sooner or later, so i hope that when they do it dont have a bad afect on our comunaty....and i think we can all figure out who im talking bout, couse to this day he hasent been bit yet, and he has been very lucky consedering some of the snakes he has free handed......just my opinion, thank you.........happy herping Wally

So, Austin Stevens is an idiot !!! I respect Steve Irwin a lot for the positive herp messages that he transmits to the public and all he has done for reptiles and thank him for getting me to want to become a herpetologist. My favorite remains Mark O`Shea, he is as far as I know president of the International Herpetological Society and he has to be good for this. So what if he got bit ? Every one that works in the field world wide gets bit sooner or later. He has the most professional way of dealing with snakes out of all the TV hosts. I also like Donald Strydom, Bryan Fry, Rom Whitaker, Zoltan Tokac and Rob Bradl. Just my 2 cents, Alex S.

Hey matt,
I was the one that said I would die for wildlife. Would risk my life to save a beautiful animal? Hell yeah! I love animals alot more than I like people. People to me are more like a virus than anything else.
I know if I get bit by a rattlesnake or attacked by a panther I know it was my fault and I would never want the animal killed. If I was killed by a wild animal I would never want it to be killed. It is my fault and I would take responbility. Not like most people. If they got attacked more likely 20 animals would be killed. I am sick of the pollution and the habitat loss. We need population control horribly. If one area has over a 150 deer and needs to be 50 we go out a kill them. We are destring our planet and I am scared that all the animals will die.
We need to control feral pests too. Look at australia, many of there native speices have been wiped out from foxes, rabits, camels, rats, pigs, and cats. In one night a cat can kill up to 20 animals just for fun. I do all in my power to not kill any crature on this earth. I think all life is precious and espcally animal life is precious.
