Can anyone tell me how often a Western Diamondback or Timber rattler should be fed? I know they digest quicker than non-venomous snakes, but I'm not clear on over or under feeding them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sol,
It's all pretty straight forward. I'd feed a juvinile about every four to seven days and an adult about every 10 days to two weeks, depending. I say depending, as adults might tend to pork up. This can lead to fatty liver diease.
I keep a 15 year old Timber that I have to monitor. On a steady diet of large rats, he'd soon become plumper than Haystacks Calhoon (a 600 pound wrestler). So, I feed him at the same interval, but smaller meals. A humongus rat is a treat. He gets perhaps a small rat or a jumbo mouse (mice have less fats than rats). It's pretty much of an eyeball thing with an older snake. Younger ones rarely have this problem as they are growing rapidly. However, you can still over feed, possibly leading to weight problems down the road. just because he'll eat it, doesn't mean he needs it.
I think this holds true with most any snake, Crote or not.
luck,
f
