I an thinking of purchasing a pair of midwests gloves.
My question is:
how protective are they? if you have used them,Can you name the species that has bitten them? How well do they perform?
Thanks.

Bryan Greig Fry uses them; you can contact him by logging on to his International Venom and Toxin Database site. You might also click Kingsnake's Venomous Reptiles forum and pose your question to a herper named bill (lower case); he raves about them.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Bill Huseth

P.S. Midwest sells a Kevlar-lined glove and one with metal staples added.

Acording to BGF, The Midwest gloves could not be bitten through by C. atrox or O. hannah, but N. kaouthia chewed through in approx 30 seconds. As I recalle, he was going to try them on a large B. gabonica. These were the unstapled gloves. He said that the stapled gloves worked like a charm with Heloderms.
You would do best to contact him and get the specifics of his testing methods and a complete report.
Cheers
Roger

Mr Huseth is correct, that's a nice piece of gear and Bill will confirm, we used it. AKA Bill(bill), jammed a needle through it at full speed with mamba venom(polylepis)<, he just got dizzy. No, not from the needle, from the venom, I was there. In all serious-ness, those gloves are a nice kicker and they are a nice smooth fit. It's a good buy dude. Buy um. Timbo

...kinda a devil's advocate, I suppose, is that of the loss of hand dexterity. How will they do with the larger, squirmier say, Dendroaspis or Naja?
Cheers

We were using them on a HUGE ED and they worked fine. Bill used them on a small mamba for an injection and it seemed to work ok. I just put them on to get a feel and they seemed to feel pretty good. BGF has used them to the limit and could answer the q's better then I. C ya Rog, Tim
