Look at the differences in the outcome when Dogs & Snakes are involved with "The Law"
(Thanks LarryF) From the same TV station:
LAKE ZURICH, Ill. A Lake Zurich snake dealer who sold three poisonous snakes to undercover authorities has been fined 100 dollars.
Lake County officials say 23-year-old Kenneth Jaros pleaded guilty this week to selling aquatic animals -- a misdemeanor. He allegedly sold two copperhead snakes and a puff adder to undercover Illinois Department of Natural Resource officials outside a mall.
Authorities also allege Jaros ran a Web site that advertised poisonous snakes for sale.
He also was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, one year of court supervision and make a 500 dollar donation to an animal shelter.
(Lake Zurich is about 40 miles northwest of Chicago.)

---------------------------------------------------
MORRISON – The owner of four dogs that mauled a rural Erie girl will not be charged in connection with the girl’s death.
The body of Lydia Chaplin, 14, was found January 27 along a rural road five miles northwest of Erie, less than a half-mile from her home. An autopsy indicated that she had died of hypothermia after she was attacked by four dogs—three pit bulls and a mixed breed.
The Whiteside County State’s Attorney says a grand jury returned “no bills” on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
The state’s attorney’s office says both the charges require the owner, Arthur Dersham, to have acted recklessly and to have consciously disregarded a substantial risk that the circumstances would result in Chaplin’s death. Neighbors had reported incidents involving the dogs during the investigation, however they were not reported to Dersham or the police.
Also, while the Illinois Animal Control Act allows for felony charges for owners of dogs previously deemed vicious by a judge, Dersham’s dogs were never found to be vicious before the attack.
Newton, the area in which Dersham and the Chaplin family lived, does have a leash law, but there were no complaints that the dogs had been running free.
The dogs were euthanized by Whiteside County Animal Control officials.
The grand jury did indict Dersham on nine counts of possession of a firearm without the requisite firearm owners identification card. While investigating Chaplin's death, police found guns owned by Dersham. His FOID card had been revoked after a civil order of protection was filed against him.

The dogs in this case were euthanized, so please explain how this was "getting away with murder". The owner was also punished, though this guy is a known drug dealer(I have been following this case on an anti-Animal Rights group on Yahoo)and has gotten off without punishment in the past for having his dogs run loose. There were pics posted of the dogs, by the way, and not ONE even resembled a "pit bull". As is often the case, just like snakes are vilified in the media, the news reports every dog-related incident as a "pit bull". All four dogs were mutts, showing more Chow characteristics than anything else, and one was so mixed even I couldn't begin to pick out any breed that might have been in its ancestry. Illinois Representatives responded to this incident by attempting to pass breed-specific anti-dog legistlation, which would have banned 12 breeds of dogs, including German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Chows, Great Danes, Akitas, etc. along with the popular media "monsters", Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, but fortunately this bill has been tabled and is effectively dead. Dogs are in fact, being singled out as vermin in many parts of the US and Canada; if the situation continues, it will be like Communist China under Chairman Mao's rule, where ALL dogs were illegal, except for scientific research and food. The same people who want snakes and other reptiles gone-the Animal Rights extremists-want dogs eliminated from our lives, too, and they are winning because of people who will side with one group of animal owners, and point fingers accusingly at the animals they don't have. BOTH dogs and "exotics" are under attack, and if we animal owners don't band together, NONE of us will be able to keep ANY animal before too long!

Sharon:
Okay...I was not happy with this one the moment I clicked the button, ooops too late.
I agree no winners in this one but I can say without question the snakes lives were ended too. My point ( I entended ) was that the BAD owner got off "Scott free" and the dogs paid the price as did the snakes. There are no bad breeds of dogs just bad owners that are the blame for Pitbull being seen as a dangerous breed. The same can be said for every hobby: there are bad apples in every bunch runing it for everyone.
We do have a common enemy, uniting is probally not possible. We have our own internal issues to resolve.

No offense to any dog lovers here but if they attacked a little girl and she died due to the attack, then they needed to be put down.and as being a father myself having a son and a daughter I would have personally went to the A-holes house who owned the dogs and ripped his body limb from limb with no remorse for making him suffer,That is far from being a joke. And if noone likes my opinion on that one,Too bad, because I don't care.Over every animal in the world, children come first. That is why we are at the top of the food chain you know.

were not at the top of the food chain. Try living on the banks of the Nile river for a month and see if the animals there will play by your rules.

BS PIT BULL is a press punch word, these animals are not given any more concern at the vet than any other dog. I have assisted over 300 surgeries and I am considered a class 3 tech here in NC. I currently am working as a curator (guess where) and can tell you from experience pit bulls are often falsly labled in the press. Remember the 2 "pitbulls" that killed the woman in San fran a couple years back, bane and harrah. Constantly called pits by the press but they werent even close, they were conicorsos Italian mastiffs, but called pits. The press in this country stands on principles of fear andintimidation, thus if it bleeds it leads. So for all those with no experience with aggressive dog breeds lemme give ya a quick list of animals which are much more aggressive at the vet.
Rottweilers always a red flag
Chows, yet again
chihuahuas, yet they are quite the pissy breed, but then again If aztecs raised me for food I might bite as well
Cocker spaniels, nuts especially old ones
and many others. Pits are raised for bull baiting and bear baiting, not for attacking humans. Unlike the roman guard dog Rottweilers, which were raised to hunt humans, like italian mastiffs. Also, intelligence is the only aspect humans possess over wild animals, or small physical trait which is what we would have to use if we were not intelligent only works with a head start. Humans can outrun any animal on the planet distance wise, if you run a horse or camel full out for 30 miles they will fall flat and die. Thus we would need a hella head start in nature, as out fur and claws are pretty petty. Just my .02,
Jared Watts
