as you all know especially those of you who post alot I don't post offen but as I look through ask the experts on a daily basis I have to say this is a topic that eats at me and I see come up in other topic threads so why not just hit the nail on the head and see what my fellow hot keepers and future hot keepers are feeling. Who is in the better TV personality's and why???
I figure I might as well give my answer
Mark O definatly one of the best and most straight up herp people on the good ole TV he is very informative and has strong conservation beliefs I give him a 10+
Jeff C awesome to say the least very knowlegable and ocasionally throws in the latin names which I find real cool he is careful with the animals and does not practice unsafe handling tech's
steve O I used to like him but he has worn thin and now I have completely lost all respect for him after the freehandling of a tiger rattler
austin s Please don't get me started I could go on for hours I will leave it at a big thumbs down
and I almost forgot
Nigel one of the originals and the greatest he was my first venomous snake TV encounters I think his reputation speaks for itself
thanks ya'll
can't wait to see you alls responses

Mark O'shea has absolutely no personallity and is not for TV. Steve and Jeff have tons of personallity and they also are extreme enthusiastic too.

Definetely need rid of some,No matter whos the best or whos the worst,No matter what there knowledge of the animals, they take alot of unnecessary chances and use improper/unhealthy means of handling or studying, they give inaccurate info on occasion, and being on tv the methods they practice are teaching people unsafe and unhealthy(to the snake) means of herping.
I wonder how many people have seen one of these personalitys freehand one of there specimens and then do it themselves only to get bitten or how many feel they have learned enough about how to go out herping and find and hook any venomous snake they come across from one of the tv personalitys and end up in a bad spot. How many kids watch the shows on animal planet and wonder how cool it would be to do what they do?I am sure if these shows havent been the cause of some injurys they will be some day.
I have a camp in the mountains and one of my neighbors was down there with his grandkid(7 years old) and the guy just happened to look out the window and the kid was smacking and trying to pick up something with his plastic wiffle ball bat and the guy went out on porch and asked what he was doing and investigated, kid said he was tyin to catch a worm, well it turned out to be a 2 ft timber, luckely the grandpap saw what was going on before it turned bad.The bad part grandpa said his favorite shows the kid watched were on animal planet and he loved the croc hunter and was always messing with any wildlife he could. While thats wonderful that hes interested in animals its a shame that he could of picked up a deadly habit at the age of 7.
Cant wait to hear what others have to say about all the personalitys on tv and it seems like theres more and more shows every week!

Mark O`Shea is in my opinion #1.
I like Jeff Corwin, respect Steve Irwin for his conservation mesages but not for the way he handles herps on tv. I despise Austin Stevens.
I realy respect and admire Donald Strydem.
Brady Barr has is in my opinion incompetent.
Bryan Fry...the name speaks for it`s self.
Just my 2 cents...Alex S.

About 25 years ago, there was a TV show called "In The Wild", which featured an Australian. I think his name might have been something like Harry Brown? He never used snake hooks, always caught snakes by hand. Does anyone remember the show, or know what ever happened to him? John

Hello fellow Hot Herpers!
Well I must start off by saying that, I don't watch the shows for the presenters... always to see the animals.
Mark O'Shea is good to watch... very knowledgeable, witty and the consumate professional. He sets a great example to current/future herpers - as does Nigel Marven.
Steve Irwin is also good to watch... very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and his passion for conservation - unsurpassed. All traits that should inspire the rest of us.
Contrary to some people, I actually enjoy watching Austin Stevens. True, his handling techniques are questionable, but he IS knowledgeable and although many of his captures are staged they make for gripping viewing.
I know many people question the way these chaps on tv go about catching deadly animals, and the impression they portray to kids... but personally I'm a firm believer in a person being in control of his/her own life - not "that crazy bloke off tv". The responsible and conscientious herper, knows the safe way and the unsafe way.
Regards

Zoltan Takacs is a professor at Yale. He is a top notch genetists who is very well known. Ph.D from University of Columbia (not the country) and all that. Studies evolutionary relationships using snake venom among other things. He just isn't on tv much.
