Well thats one of the reasons people like him, he dose crazy things. And besides, I bet all the snake experts on tv have been bit from doing somthing stupid, so Austin Stevens probaly isnt the the first person ever to get bit by a dangerous snake.

About the east and west african gaboon thing, you can find west africans in east africa too. West africans do live in the St. Lucia estuaries were he found that one. He stayed in a cage with snakes and in the end help gorilla conservation....Isnt that a good thing? Hes been bitten a few times, but so has many other herpers. Im not a big austin stevens supporter or anything but I think that he is helping conservation of these animals in some way. Hes definetly not hurting them. Alot of people seem to dislike austin stevens and steve irwin for some reason. They both have my respect. Name one valid reason why Austin Stevens shouldnt have his own show....Because hes been bitten(so have alot of others), because he does dangerous things(what would you expect from someone who is doing a show for a big business like animal planet, people wouldnt want to watch him catching ringneck snakes the whole time) Because he probably stages some things(sometimes it makes it more exciting than him finding something and the cameramen have to hustle to get to him and miss a good shot.)
Nobody is going to watch him grab a cobra with his bare hands and go out and do it just because he did. Think about it. He has obviously dedicated his whole life to show these animals to the world, even though he does it different than some of us would. He deserves respect. Like him or not, hes on our side.

I give Irwin a lot of credit for raising awareness and interest in snakes, but Stevens does more to raise fears in my opinion. When people who don't know much about snakes see someone billed as "The Snake Master" get bit twice in one show they figure these things must be really dangerous. And if "The Snake Master" can't go for a few days without getting bit, how can that guy next door who only has a state permit be trusted with a room full of snakes? Think about that when you're planning your future in herpetology...
Furthermore, dealing with visitors to the snake room at our refuge, I have yet to meet one who didn't think Austin Stevens was a fool (but yes, of course they watch anyway). I spend way too much of my time trying to undo his damage by assuring people that most keepers don't do the bonehead things he does.

He is over dramatic. He exagerates. He probably stages some of the action. He's definately not afraid to act a fool! But come on... its TV! Most watch for entertainment. He also provides some good information; albeit with his own personal spin. He promotes the conservation of some the worlds most interesting creatures. In my opinion I am for anyone who portrays these animals in a positive light. Anyone working to change negative cultural bias and stereotypes has earned my vote of approval. That said; I don't have to like him!

Ive heard alot of people talking about how his animals look. I dont even think people watch his shows, I think they watch to see if his animals are captive or not, or to see if he staged any of it. Im not a big "Snakemaster" fan but he is on our side so I respect him. He did the snake room thing for conservation...More power to him.

Well, well, well?! Here is someone who don't like Austin again! I think the person I talk about will recognise himself (he has many 'enemies' at AP site too concerning this subject). About Austins's shows - you either like them or dislike them but one thing is for sure: He is the most wonderfull human being and there is nothing bad you could say about him! I know what I am talking about cause I know the guy. And so some jelaous guys who can't get a show of their own (like someone who works in a certain zoo) can only envy him and dream to be like him but will never be good enough, not even to clean his shoes!

Well guys, a lot of people seem down on Stevens here. I'm not one of them ! OK, so he lampoons a bit, gets somewhat excited (whats wrong with that? it's his passion) and really, his pictures are awsome. I just wish he'd get them together and produce a book of them. So get off your high horses and stop being so narrow minded !!

Personally, I like Austin Stevens. Yeah sure, he might make a few mistakes. But who doesn't. I agree that some of his facts and species id's might be off, but who would know but us? He brings a fresh new way of presenting reptiles to the public. It's entertaining and exciting. And for the average audience, that's all. I mean, he does present a few good facts and displays some awesome animals (although I think that some of his "captures" are indeed set up). But overall, I like his show.
