I love the FL permit system 100$ a ear is not a lot to ask or expect. It basically covers the cost of processing paperwork and the inspection. I know after the recent hurricanes I was inspected 3 times to insure everything was good. The officer are very good people im my experiances and the system works pretty good.
Side note had there been a problem with phones down and no way to contact anyone atleast we would have had someone checking on us after the storms which was kinda a nice feeling.
To me its far better to have a permit law and system than not to. Lets all face it, it is very hard to change a law its very easy though to create one. Those states who do not have a logical good system can easily create a law banning keeping of reptiles.
The best things people can do is:
1 join a herp society.
2 if you dont have one near you start one.
3get involved in trying to write a permit system if your state does not have one "proactive is better than reactive".
Contact biologist and scientist in writing of the laws get the fact not the media stats or facts from sites that have an agenda.

My sentiments exactly. Florida's permitting system, is EXACTLY why I WILL sell my house in MD and move south. Their permitting system is spelled out, whereas, MD's permitting system is so LAME, that I would much rather be in the right 100% rather than the state come in AFTER issuing and re-issuing someone a permit (with a COMPLETE list of everything they have) and yanking everything they own because it's illegal.
I realize now (after purchasing my home in 1999) that I live in a state that rather parallels a communist organization. I came from Virginia, where absolutely no permitting system, nor laws existed and I was free to own any hot I chose to. Up until recently, I thought of Virginia as a state with nothing but gun toting, lawless cowboys who don't know how to drive. Hind sight being 20/20, I realize there is a potential in that Commonwealth for a permitting system, much like Florida. I would have rather bought my home across the river, paid 3 times for a vehicle (their infamous car tax) and still have been able to keep my snakes.
Until I can gather up all of my knowledge and leave these creatons behind, I will have to sit and stew in this GOD foresaken state they call the "Free State" *what an oxymoron*. To my fellow keepers in Florida, I say "long live the Florida Legislature".
Let me also say to ANYONE who plans to move into the "Free State", TURN BACK NOW, because if you do move here, leave your hobby behind!

Enough of this chickenshit! Chance, what the hell have I ever done to you other than tell you "NO SALES"? I think you're a blundering idiot, OK? And I have never felt you were competent to own venomous. I don't give a damn what you or anyone else (like AL) thinks about my ads. Have a problem with me? If you like, perhaps you should get your sorry ass down here and discuss it with me. You seem to loathe me so much.
I've sat on the sidelines over the years and heard of the things you said and posted... and yet I have done and said nothing. Don't even get me started ladies and gentleman on all the e-mails this little brat has sent me. Chance, I have done nothing to you, but you just seem to hate me for not respecting you. I don't. By your conduct, your behavior, and your mouth-I never will. Shut your mouth, don't e-mail me, and last but not least. PISS OFF already! Put UP OR SHUT UP!

Sean Palmer, ladied and gentleman. Give him a hand.
But in all seriousness, yes Sean, it was your ad I was referring to. And yes, I sent you a few e-mails about you freehandling one of your monocled cobras in an ad a month or two ago, and here you go again posting another macho "look at me" ad where you're freehandling another one! However, I made this post as a general reference and wasn't going to mention any names. Thanks though for letting everyone know who it was who I was talking about. You really think this isn't a dangerous thing for you to be posting pictures of yourself doing stupid things like that?
Thanks also for coming and posting in your typical fashion to show everyone just what kind of person you really are. You want to talk about e-mails? Maybe you should consider the ones you sent to me. Unlike you, I don't lower myself to these kinds of childish standards. THAT'S why I didn't name who it was I was referring to in my original post. I could care less if you respect me, lord knows you don't get an ounce from me. What I am concerned about are the possibilities of people looking at your ads, saying to themselves, "hmm, well if he can be that stupid and get away with it, why can't I?" and getting bitten, causing more anti-herp laws to spring up.
So why is it that you insist on posting pictures of yourself freehandling baby cobras? I'm sure I'm not the only person curious on that account. Does it give you a thrill? Does it make you feel manly? Do you feel 'connected' to the snake and 'know' it's not going to bite you? What is it?
Eagerly awaiting a responce...

Chance,
I dont understand how that was being macho in all honesty. Sean didn't write on the add "hey everyone, do what I do". If that is his method than that is his way of doing things. People need to stop judging others and blaming them for the venomous community problems. Like I have said, states that aren't regulated need to get some kind of permit systems in place if individuals want to keep these animals. I have seen more "macho" pictures in the photo gallery that could be much more detrimental. I have not done business with Sean yet but, I have talked through emails and he is definately not a show off type of guy.

Im with Joe on this one.Sean is a great guy! What Sean chooses to do is just that...what Sean chooses to do.I dont feel like he is trying to come off as macho or sugggesting to others to do this.I feel he is taking a well calculated risk and who are we or you Chance to judge him for it.I think very few of us can ever say we have NEVER free handled a hot.I know I have and Im not afraid to admit it.I learn from my mistakes.I have never been tagged by a hot(knock on wood)I no longer choose to free handle at all though.I have kept hots for 11 years and cannont even approach the time and knowledge that a guy like Sean has with hots. Who are we to judge this guy ?? Comon Chance this guy has breed more cobras than you and I have ever seen.He is a stand up guy who sees thing black and white.I guess some people cant handle that type of person...their my favorite.I will keep my buisness with Sean as long as he is decides to keep in buisness.I have a eeling that will be a long time.

Chance you come off so self righteous and act as though you really care about the hobby and the future of it.I was told that by a guy named Joe or roach owns you in NY that you sent him a baby Crotalus Horridus via a ground carrier.I feel his info was credible as he has no reason to defame you.You are busting Seans chops on free handling when that is not even illegal.I just feel the arguemaent needs to be fair here.I am guilty of shipping and recieving Hots via ground carrier in my earlier years.I will admit that. After seeing the right way to do things I refuse to do so any longer.

This is one of the things I love about the venomous community. Like it was pointed out on Kingsnake several days ago in relation to the mamba bite in FL, when it's some no-name, everyone rips into them for their stupidity. But when someone the community respects does something stupid, like freehandling in a classified ad, people who would probably condemn the no-name come to the other person's defense. This sort of click-ish aspect of the community is precisely one of the main reasons I personally decided to exit it. I mean hell, I've been ripped into for something as simple as taking pictures of venomous snakes outside in a very controlled setting.
Joe and Trey, I respect both of you guys and we've had quite a few conversations between us in the past. However, despite your good feelings toward Sean or good deals you've had with him, I find it quite disheartening that either of you would defend his obviously inappropriate actions. Such is life though I suppose.
