I used to be in the herp trade years ago, but have been working in the insurance industry for some time. A friend of mine owns an import co and would like me to work for him. It would mean less money, i think, but it would be more enjoyable, and I could start selling reptiles to the public for extra cash. Any thoughts ?
Thanks

Well if you're familiar with the trade you must be familiar with all the wonderful quirks that accompany it (good and bad). Unless your lucky, and I mean real lucky...its not realistic to expect fame and fortune relying on sales. I certainly don't have much at all in the way of material possessions, but I'm happy, I do what I love, and I don't answer to anyone. This means something too.
It just depends on what is important to you. To me, life is too short to deny yourself your heart's desires.

Yeah money wise its better to stay where I am, but the reptile job would be much more enjoyable. It is also out in the boonies so housing is cheaper.

Most often, folks do not take jobs in the reptile trade for the money. It is for the love of working with the animals. It is hard work, and the pay is just not all that good. But, now days, zoo keepers do get medical and retirement benefits, which is a good improvement. When I worked at AZP, a reptile keeper was paid less than a city garbage man. Still, I would not trade my time there for the world. Best Regards JohnZ
