My friend and I was scouting, and we came upon a snake skin, I was wondering how can you tell what kind of snake it is when you only have the skin?
The snakes I suspect it is....
Smooth green snake
rough green snake
baby garter snake
ringneck snake
queen snake
The entire skin is here along with the eyes....
The skin is about 14 inches.

Count the number of dorsal scale rows (see a book for the way to count), and look up the stats for the snakes you think it might be. You can often tell which snake it is that way.

OK, freind found another snake skin (for some reason, snakes always elude me but find everyone else)
It measured out to about 2 feet but the rest of the tail section wasn't there.
It has keeled scales
scale count:19
Estimated lenth...3 or 4 feet
Anyone have any ideas on what it might be?
