difference between venomous and non venomous

i was wondering if what i was told was correct or not. is it true that all venomous snakes have the triangle type head and non venomous has the more rounded head or what exactally is the truth rtegarding that.

Thats just a general statement. All the vipers will have the triangular head, but the cobras, as well as others don't have the triangle.Hope this helps a little.

Please don't rely on the shape of a snakes head as a sole means of identification, as stated by SShane that is a rather "general" description a prime example in North America is the Coral snake which has a rather blunt shaped head, But the Coral is a truly venomous snake,
Hope that this is usefull.

Another reason relying on head shape can lead to mis-identification is that several NA non-venomous snakes, in defensive posture, have a head that seems rather distinct from the neck. Among them are the genera Nerodia & Thamnophis. I realize Thamnophis are heading toward being opisthoglyphs & can cause some discomfort in some cases, but they are not dangerously venomous.
Check out the cottonmouth page on the site below for a pic of a cottonmuth & watersnake side-by-side, & you'll see what I mean about not wanting to rely on head shape.
