Okay, here's the URL where you can post photos of herping vehicles. Whatever you use, be sure to post the type of terrain that you ride, and why you like that vehicle for that terrain.

For road cruising, a Suburban. Comfortable for driving hours on end and all the room in the world. Mine (a 350 V8) does up to 18 on the highway and has a 42 gallon tank so I can forget about the gas gauge. It's not bad off road, but the long overhang at the rear requires some caution. The turning circle, roughly the size of Rhode Island, can be a nuisance in some situations.
For getting into "2 Foot" country, a Jeep Cherokee. Roomier and more comfortable than the Wrangler and almost as capable on bad terrain. On the road it is much less pleasant than the Suburban but will do in a pinch.
As noted elsewhere, off road all you need a vehicle for is to get to the real starting point.

If you plane on Herping my Stomping Grounds, a 4x4 is a must, a lot of Backwood Muddy Roads, with a lot of Pot Holes that would Swallow the Front End of any other Vehicle. As for my preferred Herping Machine, I would have to choose the Smallest 4x4 Available, if not, Gas Prices would put you under. To name some I like, Toyota, Jeep, and Honda would have to make the top of the List. My other big thing is to have a Vehicle with a Open Bed in the Back, this makes it easer to get my tools when I have to run after a Snake before it can hit the High Grass and Weeds on the other side. I don’t know if any of you have had to Wrestle with trying to get your Tools out of the Cab wile the Snake just goes on its Marry Way “LOL”. ..........................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

Jeep Wranglers only get ~18mpg. I have no idea how they get so little mileage out of such a small 4x4.

I currently have a 93 Toyota 4x4 pickup with a camper shell. It got me out of some really hairy situtations in Apalachicola (if the road on the map ends, but the trail continues...don't keep going!!) It was nice with the shell because I was able to find a spot and go to sleep back there without worrying about bugs (it does leak so rain was an issue).
Needless to say, my wife HATES that truck and it's starting to have some transmission issues. In May, I will be picking up my new Toyota FJ Cruiser. This summer a dash mounted GPS will be coming out for it.
