I'm just wondering how many people here have actually obtained permits to possess their exotic hots. I live in California, and obtaining a permit seems like a long, drawn out process..... which is definately a GOOD- responsible thing, but it's still a huge hastle. Also-- how many people have their own anti-venom on hand for their hot exotics? From what I've heard very few actually do. My question is, what happens if you DO happen to get bit? I'm curious as to how that works.
Happy Herping!

i live in ilinois and i was wondering the same thing. i am going to obtain a permit. i don't keep any venomous snakes yet, and all my experience(with venomous snakes) has been in the field. i really want to get a copperhead, and a couple of cobras. i was wondering if anyone from il actually has one of these permits. i found out one has to prove one of three things to get a permit. i am wondering if it is worth all the trouble. i am a zoology student, and i really don't want to write a 36+ page report on the scientific applications of myself owning a venomous snake. one also has to send photos of the enclosures the snakes are to be kept in. i think it is funny how keeping potentially lethal arachnids is completely unregulated. i have kept scorpions like Leiurus, Parabuthus. spiders like (funnel web)Atrax, and a number of different Latrodecus. don't get me wrong i think the permit system is a good thing, but i wish it was easier to prove that i am an adult with good intentions..
