I have a southern copperhead I've had nearly three months. As of nearly the last 2, it has refused, short of force-feeding the animal what can I do? Is this normal? What are some reasons it my not be eating?

I have the same problem with wild caught coppers, all you have to do is go to any hardware store and buy a LIVE MOUSE TRAP , and I assure you he will eat. For some reason some wild caught coppers and timbers only recognize field mice as a meal (smell).

Parasites would be my guess for a WC Copperhead not eating. Feeding live WC mice is one answer as was already suggested. It's not only Copperheads that sometimes demand WC mice. I have a Desert Massasauga and a Hopi that refuse domestic mice. Domestic Deer Mice are available from some breeders and they work just fine.

Actually, the question about the sex of the animal is probably pretty relevant. Copperheads are fairly notorious for refusing to eat prior to delivering a cageful of squirming little chunkheads.
