Thanks for naming Abilene to your lists guys!
The new Herpetarium is going to be awesome- I have big plans for this place!
As far as the list, here's my 2 bits:
George Van Horn's serpentarium in St Cloud, Fl was amazing
San Antonio Zoo is pretty impressive
San Angelo Nature Center is very well done
Edisto Island Serpentarium was interesting
The Rattlesnake Museum in Albuquerque is great, Bob does a very good job with it
I've never been, but I hear great things about Cape Fear Serpentarium.

I am utterly amazed that no one has mentioned the St Louis Zoo. They have a great collection including Willard's Rattlers, a fascinating group of Viperids from Asia Minor and a Tuatara. The building it is housed in is an architectural classic, alone worth the visit. The exhibits and the atmosphere easily place it close to, if not at, the top of my "favorites" list.

Whew, I was wondering if anyone was going to mention St. Louis. Of all the places I've visited, it has most definitely been the nicest.

International Rattlesnake Museum Albuquerque, NM was very nice. I went once when I lived down there.
Don't forget the Memphis Zoo, I'm sure its nice but have to admit I have never been and I live 2 hours away and at one time even lived there. But I hear its nice.

I would also include the Mutual of Omaha Zoo in Omaha Nebraska. They didn't have the most herps I have ever seen but they included the inland taipan and the eastern brown snake which are the two most toxic snakes in the world. They had so much that was amzing a whole Desert, big rainforest, a noctural cavern, and a huge aquarium. One of the most impressive zoo I have ever been to. I remeber going to a huge zoo in Germany that took my mom and I over 2 days to cover but I can't remeber if they had herps or not.

I appreciate Rob listing the OKC Zoo in my hometown. It has a nice collection but an older facility -- however, a brand new state of the art herpetarium is being planned for the next few years. My hope is to retire from my day job in about 3 years and get a part time gig there for the "golden years" playing with snakes!

Hello All,
I have pictures uploaded to the site's photo album of Cape Fear Serpentarium for any wishing to see it. It is like the Disney World of herp exhibits! Dean Ripa really did it right when he made that serpentarium.
Enjoy,
Todd

It is my personal opinion that the Edisto Island Serpentarium is the cleanest serpentarium I have ever been to. The Serpentarium is located on Edisto Island South Carolina. Owned by Heyward and Ted Clamp. It has a open rainforest surrounded by a moat inside that houses free ranging emerald tree boas, caimen, and amazon tree boas. The outdoor enclosures house venomous and non venomous snakes, alligators, more caimen, a many of the native South Carolina turtles. Everything is well landscaped and beautiful. I consider it a must see.

For great reptile exhibits, try the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford. If it's been a couple of years since you have been there, you will see the extreme changes that have taken place in the zoo and with all the exhibits, especially in their Herpetarium. Reptile exhibits are very natural, with a painted background. Many species are represented, including some that are not normally exhibited in zoos, at least in Florida. Don't forget the crocodilian exhibits on the north side of the Herpetarium, or the lizard exhibits on the west side.
