I was Reading through some of the more recent Threads and noticed a Youngster that said he was Keeping a Bushmaster. This truly Scared me, it also made me wonder if he could be telling the truth, considering how many Show Venders don’t even bother checking the Age of their Customers.
I won’t mention any Names, but I wish you all would join me in trying to talk this individual into give his Snake up to the Authorities. In this way we could possibly Save a Limb, if not a Life.
Just think about the Headlines on this one “Youngster Bitten By Bushmaster Snake: Doctors Say He Will Lose His Arm”. Kind of makes you wonder what kind of Damage would come from such a thing Huu?

Becky: I do give a Damn “As You Say”. Do you really realize the Legal Damage this kind of thing could do to the Venomous Community? More Bad Press, just means more Bans. If we as a Community don’t start trying to Teach the Younger Herp Fans, it could be the Death of our Hobby.
Let me ask you something: Would you suggest a 14 Year Old Kid having a Bushmaster (One of the most Dangerous of all Pit Vipers found in the Americas) as a Pet? If you would, you do not ever need to Keep Venomous Snakes.
I hate to be blunt here but, its people with your outlook on life and this Hobby, that cause us to lose our Keeping Rights.

I completely agree....apathy is a killer in our hobby. With state after state jumping on the "Herp Ban" bandwagon, it is going to take some aggressive movements to protect our rights. Folks like the one previous post who only keeps a corn snake could face having their beloved pets banned...there are counties in Illinois, for example, who ban ALL reptiles - you can't even keep an Anolis lizard! So, "who gives a damn?"....I sure do!
NO way should a 14 year old keep any venomous snake as a pet...no way, no way, no way. I don't care if this kid's dad is Jeff Corwin. I've been very vocal on my opinions on minors keeping venomous so I'll bite my tongue but the main point in this thread is that the entire venomous community should be concerned by recent trends of unscrupulous breeders selling animals to ill equipped and under aged keepers...scary combination. Even those like myself who've been working with venomous for many years, and, keep some Lachesis myself, will tell you that even with years of experience, this is a species that deserves the utmost of skill, respect, maturity, professionalism, knowledge and resources. Until you've dealt with a 8' pissed off bushmaster, you will not know what I'm talking about.

Due to the infulx of trolls in recent years on this website, I wouldn't get all flustered with such claims. The chances of a youngster getting a Lachesis is in my opinion, pretty small due to a few reasons.
1. The expense (Usually over $1,000)
2. Not readily available on the market or even your local herp shows.

Well, considering the workshop I attended last night for our Florida Wildlife Comm. Reptiles of Concern Bill, "who gives a damn" is a sh*tty attitude to take when we are talking about a human life. There are stiff regulations being passed right now in reguards to "exotic" reptiles, like Tokay Geckos who overrun parts of our state already. Hopefully she will not turn hers loose also, when it bites her and the pain is unbearable.
For the record I definatly give a damn. Illegal ownership of exotic venomous reptiles is the foundation for new regulations being made today. I do not know if this young man really owns a Bushmaster. I hope not, because very few people would be able to produce them for sale. I am not "new to the hobby" and how dare you be so irresponsible to as to put my rights on the line. By the way, since you do not keep any venomous, maybe you should not give advise on keeping venomous in these forums. Good Luck getting your Florida VR license that so many of us were fighting for last night in Kissimmee.
Thank You
Paul

I agree with everyone here completly. If you dot "give a damn" why would you own reptiles??? Because the effects of anything even within the realm of reptiles could affect all keepers wether it is directly or indirectly and we must work to preserve our hobby.
Thanks Eric

Back on June 13, there was a rude comment posted here under the name BeckyJane98, which was deleted by site managers. Here is what she had to say about it:
"Oh my. I was staying with some relatives in Georgia and I checked this site on my sisters computer. My nephew who is 14, got on here under my name. Needless to say, his father caught him typing horriable suggestions and he got in trouble. My appologies to keys and the other people on here. This has been very embarrising to me. I am so sorry about this. I hope this can be smoothed over. I had no intentions of my nephew playing a sick prank."
Her earlier posts all seemed legitimate. She asked questions about Corn Snakes and Geckos. Perhaps BeckyJane is visiting her nephew again? Perhaps she should change her password so that her nephew does not have access to play pranks?
Best Regards JohnZ

Oh, I remember that. That could be true and if that is the case I would suggest a password change.....

I've got to agree with FLvenom911...sometimes younger people get on this site with some outrageous posts and you just have to wonder.
A kid comming up with a Bushmaster is a little much. Ryno (sp) over on the Texas panhandle has one for sale for $1700. That's boat loads of money for a kid to come up with. And Ryan would ask a lot of questions before he ever shipped it to someone he didn't know.
I've hung out at the San Antonio show and watched dealers conduct business. I have seen them sell Atrox and such to ( I felt) idiot adults but I have never seen them sell a hot to a kid. No way.
If someone in this community was doing bad things repeatedly, there are other people in the community that would move on him, and they would not use the court system or Juris prudence.
