I may be mistaken but is the not a amelanistic Cottonmouth at the SREL site? I thought for sure I saw an article about it before. I really like the amelanistic Canebrake there.

No I did mean ALBINO ssp. Osage are a ssp of the Contortrix sp and that is an albino I have seen, as well as bbnads being albino and seening BOTH Melanistic MokasenXcontortrix (NC Lake Jordan area if I recall correctly) and Melanistic Mokasen in the shenendoah Valley of VA. Arent these ssp, I didnt know I had to be so specific, next time I will bust out some books.

Thus you are correct for my improper grammar "albinos are not ssp" but Subspecies like A.c.mokasen can be albino, or whatever to that effect.

Jared,
Ok. Sorry for the missunderstanding. Anyway, albinism could be met in any subspecies of A. contortrix. Subspecies status is not a boundry (have I spelt it right ? ) for this.
All the best,
Alex

An albino A. p. leucostoma was also caught by a fisherman in SE Louisiana a few years ago. When he found out that the snake would be potentially valuable, he tried to market it locally, and eventually sold it for $1,000 to a local keeper. The animal died a few months later.
