I hate to break it to you , but we have no rights as citizens , no privacy , and no freedoms. the homeland security act took care of that . Anyway ALA sounds a lot like AZ , there is supposedly a " permit " but they will not issue it . FREAKIN' REDICULOUS !!!

Hey ? I have a question, are you guys going to shun the two individuals for breaking the law ? Remove them from your site , and refuse to reply to their questions / comments ?
I was curious , because I was kicked out of the arizona herpetolical joke of an association , because I violated the venomous laws myself . Meanwhile the board members are breaking the same laws .
Funny thing about wildlife police....... they only enforce the laws when it suits them , & they can make a lot of money off the bust .

Only one of the individuals involved was a regular member of this site.
And we have to remember that so far, they have only been arrested and charged, they will still have to go to court to face the charges against them.
Could be that the charges will be dropped, or reduced.
Seems like it is a bit too early to speculate on the outcome of the case against them, as we do not know the details of just what they were up to, or how many illegal snakes they were selling.
Should be interesting to watch though.
Best Regards JohnZ

certain sheriffs will issue exotic venomous permits but they are no good if f&g don't issue them. thing is, they don't issue them. f&g seem to care when they want to, saying one thing then later doing another. i can't say much but things aren't as they appear in the papers. in my opinion, they thought there was stuff going on that wasn't. didn't know i had been arrested either lol. i wasn't breeding anything to sell either. i've posted ads for out of state friends before too. and wally, simply touching a non-game animal at swan creek is a federal offense, so remember that. when removing a snake from the road. mr. champion sounded giddy when he told me that so that may be their next gig.

and for the record, in 2005 a man was busted because of false water cobras but to this day, false water cobras are almost always for sale at the dixie reptile show in birmingham.
the law states that non-indigenous venomous reptiles are illegal, but indigenous is really a poor word. an animal born inside alabama IS indigenous to alabama. why did they choose that word? why isn't there an accessible list on the f&g site as to what is legal? sometimes, harmless rear-fanged venomous are illegal and sometimes they aren't, depending on the person's mood.
they don't differentiate between selling and possessing and there is no law against selling native hots. there is no age limit, and really no system set up to ensure some kid doesn't end up with a 7' eastern diamondback which can be a heck of a bite, a/v or not.
the "licensed expert" also thought that a kenyan sand boa may be "poisonous" because "it looked poisonous" and they were lost when i told them i used to keep sulcatas. they asked if they were those "land turtle things". there also is no case to be made on the illegal shipping and/or selling. i've shipped venomous snakes once and they were done via northwest air cargo the legal way and everyone knew exactly what was being shipped. in that shipment, there were just as many nonvenomous snakes and even the above-mentioned sulcatas.
there is no "snake ring" and nothing going on underground. i'm not like that, brad isn't like that and as one should expect, this is made out to be much more than it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall the guy that was busted in 2005 had a b. annulata and not an h. gigas.
Maybe Wes can help us with this.

nope, he's down the road and had a h. giga that was about 4-5ft long. june of 2005. here's the link http://www.decaturdaily.com/decaturdaily/news/050616/snake.shtml
they said there was no a/v for it. true, but there isn't any needed since it's not dangerously venomous.

Ricky is absolutely right, it Was a False Water Cobra (the man that had it lives about 2 miles from me) and believe me when I tell you that Alabama Laws on Keeping Exotic Venomous are so Screwed Up, that they don’t know the difference between Northern, Southern, Broad-Banded, or Trans-Pecos Copperheads.
Ricky, I am sorry for jumping the gun on this Bull that is going on man and I do wish you and Brad the best of luck.

Ricky,
I’m very sorry that you are in a jam. I also understand your anger and frustration. But, you have the right to remain silent, and that might not be a bad idea! Just as you feel they are capable of twisting the law, they are capable of twisting your words. It is possible that the most innocuous comment may come back to haunt you. Please seek legal counsel ASAP. In the meantime silence is your best defense.
Best of luck,
Paul M. Kaczmarczik

might be timely to point out to xvenomx that there was nothing at all in any homeland security legislation about reptiles. Totally different issue.
