Neodesha plastics is due to begin making neodesha cages again, I live 12 miles from the factory, and I was told by the plant manager they will resume making these wonderful cages. This is awesome news to me. I will let you all know when and how you can order if you would like, Just thought you all may be interested in hearing this!

If this is true, it will be interesting to see how they intend to structure the comapany, and how the prices will run. Personally, I would like to see them back in production. Realistically, I dont know how they can accomplish a successful business plan in this economy.
Lets hope for the best...

Greg, please keep us informed on that. If it is true, it would be great news for herpers.
The folks who used to run Neodesha went out of business because they got older, and did not want to make the long drive to east coast reptile shows, whicn they thought was very important. I talked with them, and they said they wanted to spend more time with their kids and grand kids.
They still have all of the materials and vaccume molding machines to put it all back into production.
I know the whole factory was for sale for a number of years.
Perhaps a younger member of the family has decided to bring back the cages, or, perhaps a new owner of the whole factory.
If that is the case, it would be great to have a reasonable priced cage that is between the glass aquarium, and the expensive Vision cages, back on the market.
Best Regards

They are still a company, they just stopped making the cages, They make other things currently, so they already have a business, they are just starting to make cages again.

Neodesha cages have proven that they dont stand the test of time. They yellow and crack. Not something I would invest in unless they changed the material they were made with.

Aaron, I will have to dissagree with you on that one.
I have Neodesha cages that are ten years older than you are, and are still in use.
How they stand up depends on many factors.
One, is the amount of exposure to UV light they get. That can cause some plastics to become brittle with age.
Second, is how hot the plastic gets over time. Heat causes the plasticizers to evaporate, and the cage becomes less flexable, and more prone to crack.
Third, the exposure to cleaning products can also wash the plasticizers from the cage, and make it more prone to break.
Fourth, herpers are notoriously bad about lifting a cage from the top center. This is where the plastic is at its very thinnest, and most abpt to crack. If they were lifted from the sides, you would not have cracking at the tops of the cages.
If you find a Neodesh cage that has not held up over time, it is because it was not taken care of the correct way, not because there is something particullary bad about the cage, the plastic it was made from, or the way it was made.
Best Regards

Also, the modern ABS plastics that they will use to bring back the Neodesha cages are much more resistant to UV light than were the plastics that were used when the cages were last made many years ago.

I always thought they were neat looking cages, but I had never seen an old cage that wasnt yellowed and cracked. I could be wrong, Id givem a try if the price was right.
