I agree with Tannith; if it's not the typical "chuffing" accompanied with the "die, die, you must die"!!! act, then it's potentially an issue that is going to require much more than raising the humidity. URIs in snakes are a serious problem indeed.

Arin, no offense, but adding a bowl of water is not going to magically make this snake better if it's sick. Hydration is important but if the snake has any sort of RI, it will probably need some medical attention. Get in touch with Tannith - she works with many convalescing venomous herps and knows what she is doing.

Just shotgunning an anti-biotic into the water is not a good method. The issue needs to be identified. Is the problem bacterial, viral, protozoal.....? Different bacteria is sensitive to different drugs. Any drug is hard on a reptiles renal system and should not be used without careful thought and methodology.
This is what Rob was getting at.

Danny,
Have you tried standing very still and quiet just outside of the animal's view and listening? It might be worth a shot to know if the animal is exhibiting these symptoms when there is no real stimulus attached. Some (many) cobras will get a bit lazy and reluctant to perform the full show and may just chuff while seemingly at ease. Get a chair and stay to the side and listen intently to see if this is something going on all the time or just when the animal sees you (in any context).
Good luck

Good idea Doug. And, yes, that's what I was getting at with the water bowl...youngsters just get so darn defensive. With so much terrible advicefloating around, a newbie needs to hear both sides before making an informed decision. Bottom line is that any newbie keeper should establish a relationship with a veterinarian. Many will not treat venomous due to the risks involved but establishing a relationship over time helps one's chances.
