I think this is a good place to sum up this thread.
Danny asked for help with an apparent cobra respiratory problem.
He has received responses from two zoo keepers (Cro and MSTT) and two Reptile Curators (Rob Carmichael and AquaHerp) and Arin (who has kept privately for several years).
MSTT said to drop her a line if you need help finding veterinary care.
Arin suggested (offline) using products from a website which I did visit.
I could not find one single product that said it was safe for reptile use. While I did see where it said that there was no possible way to get to a lethal dose in dogs, cats, or horses, as the two Curators pointed out, reptiles have different systems.
As has been suggested, the snake may not even be sick but may, in fact, be exhibiting species specific defensive behavior. From personal professional experience, I have seen that reptile URI is serious and will not be fixed by raising humidity or temperature.
I would be interested in the outcome.
Please let us know how your snake does.

ok, he is still outwardly healthy, no mouth or nasal discharge. nothing that would lead me to believe that he has an RI. i really didnt post because i thought he was sick,i was wondering if it was normal for him to make a coughing sound every so often. i have had experience with RI in my bitis, and i dont see any of the signs in my cobra that i observed in my rhino. but, i dont have the time in keeping elipids that i do keeping bitis, so i am seeking advice.it is the chuffing sound he is making, the same sound he makes when he strikes. he dosent do it often, maybe 2 or 3 times a day (that i notice). and i dont think its defensive because he dose it with sometimes even when he is in his hide, and no one is around his cage. i have gotten alot of good advice, and i thank you all.. i will let everyone know what happens.i expect that he is fine, maybe he is a little eccentric,lol..Thanks, Danny

Danny, you should probably just keep an eye on the situation, and see if things get worse.
I wonder if there might be a chance that the snake is a bit allergic to all of the pollen that is in the air this Spring ?
I sure hear a lot of people going around with a occasional cough, and many of them are blaming it on pollen.
Best Regards
