San Antonio VS Columbia show on the same weekend

I'd probably go to both if they were not on the same weekend! What gives? Not only do vendors have to pick and choose so does some of the community. Im begining to wonder if the herp community has to many shows! I'm up in the air on what show to try this year.

Don't think it is too many shows.
More likely that the show promoters think that Texas is so far from South Carolina, that it will not matter.
And there is some truth to that, as most folks in the SE do not go to the San Antonio show, because it is just too far a drive.
However, when both shows are counting on big vendors like Glades to show up, it does cause a problem for the shows, because if Glades goes to both shows, it has to split up the available animals between the shows.
That same conflict has happened in the past.
Perhaps the show promoters need to look at each others calenders, and make a effort to not overlap on scheduling.
To some extent, it might bring in a few more folks attending the shows, and it could bring in a few more vendors who are stuck deciding which of the two shows they should vend at.

I wish we could have a clear winner I guess. It would be nice to have a SOUTHERN Venomous show that was very large. The Yanks can have Hamburg lol and we get... Point is both shows compete for vendors on the same day and what could be one LARGE show for the South is instead a bit smaller for both. Granted Texas is a bit far away for most people on the East Coast and vise-versa but the issue is where vendors go and the fact these shows battle for them really takes away from what could be one large Venomous show for the South!

when there are two shows like this at the same time, rob keszey does the north carolina show, and robroy macinnes does the san antonio show, i would like to go this year, we should be in our new house soon, with my own monsterous snake room, who else is going? hope we can meet, arin

I am the promoter for the San Antonio show.
We set our dates 5 years in advance.
We have several vendors from Florida at every show.
I know it's a long drive for those in the southeast, but the one's who come, usually herp on the way, and on the way out.Thats way they hit as many as 4 states in some instances.Other's like Glades, stay in Texas for a few days after the show, especially in November when it's perfect to herp because the weather is so nice still.
Granted my show and Cathy's show are far apart from each other, so I don't see any competion between us, vendor wise or attendance. So, I don't think having our dates as the same as theirs, hurts anybody, and as said earlier, we set our dates way in advance.. That show attracts vendors mainly from the Southeast, while our's attracts vendors from Tex, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri,and Arizona, so the species of animals are very different than the southeast show's.

I guess let the best show win and if vendors from Florida feel Texas is worth their time and money it says a lot about your show IMO! I would love to go, maybe next year as I have already agreed to meet someone in SC.
