Two weeks ago, the wife and I looked ak a dog ass of a house. It is pink brick, and just a big time POS that needs TLC. The roof is good and all the walls are level and we are blessed enough to be able to buy such a pile of crap. So I decided to take it and build a herp room in it. It has a garage that was converted to an extra room so that will be the snake palace. I plan on doing a build along with pictures and would like help posting them. thanks much.

I am in Texas. Way down south at the end of I-45. This is a project I have been waiting to do for years. Thanks to the economy being down I am now able to own a home. This room is a converted garage about 14X14 give or take. My first order of business is to tear out the dry wall, install plugs, and a fan, run some duct so the ac will blow in there, run wire to my plugs build a wall and install a steel door with a window and dead bolt. Then I will get to lay out the snake enclosures. My only concern is that down here garages always flood. I need a good rain to see how I do there.

I was thinking of a sub floor, but ware I am at hurricanes come now and again. There is a footer about 8 inches around the floor so it may not leak. I plan on making the enclosures part of the wall so I guess I will have time to see if water comes in. If it does, then I should be able to take care of it with some landscaping. The house is on a slab so I may just be paranoid or something. And yes, I do keep a few snakes. Only one is Venomous. At this time the reside at my vets house until we get moved in. I am considering a trade that may get me out of the hot hobby for a bit. Did the table saw get your finger or was it a snake ?

You know what, I build above ground shelters and could tell you exactly how to re build the room so not even katrina would hurt it.As far as flooding goes keep every thing above 4 foot to be safe.I live in the desert so flooding is rare here.Let me know if you are interested in shoreing that thing up.I did recently flood proof a building that was in a flood area.We poured two foot of concrete 6 inches wide aroud the building and put some stairs over a small entry way that was also two foot high. You could pour the concrete 18 inches high right against the wall 6 inches wide and just step over it if your door opens to the inside. That will stop a bit of flooding.Fact is I could give you Ideas all day that is what I do.You can get this done very cheap if you do most of it your self
