Wow! Nice find Karl. Sometimes its hard not to take ones like that home with you..... but you did the right thing!!
You would think considering their range and locations we would be able to find more/larger wild monsters.

I went back and checked my records - 128 cm (just over 4 feet) and 1350 grams (in the wild). I've seen some in captivity, but ironically I don't have any official record of their size.

Chuck Hurd has a large cotton called gunther. Not sure of the exact size but it is a very large specimen. The pictures can be seen at www.chuckhurd.com

hey there is(was) the 2 biggest cottonmouths and eastern diamondbacks at a park in everglades city fl.
saw them bout 6 years ago. The cottonmouth was 12 pounds 68 in. and beyound massive head. The rattler dwarved that. They said 16 pound 7 ft 5. and literally close to thigh sizee in girth. Go check it out 4 yourself. Norton2282@yahoo.com if u dont believe me

Yea my high school in south east GA had a couple of bridges that were around 100' long that connected the school to the parking lot and hovered over a small swamp. I saw one in there one day that was easily 5' long and not quite as big around as a milk jug. I wanted to catch it but I caught a garter snake on a prior day on the way back from gym and you'd think I brought back a tiger by their reaction so I couldn't have imagined their reaction to a 5ft cottonmouth Ha. But other than that the largest Ive ever seen couldn't have been over 3' 1/2. Largest ever Ive ever caught was 2'
